Time for the tank?

With all the doom and gloom out there surrounding the team and management it got me thinking about what would happen should the board decide to dispense of SCP services. Who would you like to bring in ? Who would be accepted straight away. Who has the experience ? I found a manager with European experience. Played for Charlton and ironically standard liege at the end of his career.
I think the fans and the players would respond to Jorge Costa.
Anyone else out there ?

  • 1. Short term fix manager to galvanise both the players & supporters, & keep us up.
    2. Proven track record in this area, having previously done it last season at another English club.
    3. Good knowledge of English lower leagues from first successful spell as a manager.
    4. Currently available, so no compensation needed.
    5. Ex Charlton player, so already knows the club fairly well.

Paolo di Canio. Get him in Duchalet.

Much as I loved PDC as a player, I'd honestly want to shoot anyone who brought him in as our manager.

    Yeah. Never thought of PDC.
    Zola lives local.

Even though he only spent one year @ Braga I thought he did quite well with them... i.e. didnt he get them into Europe

As well he's also managed CFR Cluj from Romania... won their Premier League

  • If we brought Jorge in now, we would get relegated.

Just out of interest, why do you say that? It feels to me that the Club has gone very flat in recent weeks. di Canio could come in and get bums on seats, and if nothing else unite our fans.

He did well at Swindon and short term at Sunderland.

  • More chance of Paolo than Jorge.

Well, apart from being a fascist lunatic whose only managerial success came at a club with a budget far out of kilter with the rest of the league, I can't really put my finger on what I dislike about him. I also doubt it would unite our fans. Half of us would be calling for Powell to return, many would disagree with the appointment of such a character etc, etc.

Media myths. Sunderland owner Elliot Short dispelled these at some length when he appointed di Canio.

PDC had no budget at Swindon, in fact I recall that he funded some transfers out of his own pocket.

Nathan Jones would be my pick if we ended up managerless tomorrow.

(NOT in any way advocating replacing Powell here, I still think he's the right man.)
  • Why is this even being discussed we have got the right man at the helm all he needs is support from the owner and board to bring some players of his choice in and we will be fine.

    IN SCP we trust

Anyone suggesting PDC needs to visit a shrink.

I think they're all brilliant suggestions and any one of those managers would undoubtedly turn Simon Church into the 35 goal a season striker that he clearly should be, and get Lawrie Wilson to perform like Roberto Carlos where SCP has somehow failed.

I think you cut and pasted the old Socialist Workers press release about "facsist lunatics"?

  • "Time for the tank". I thought that was cockney rhyming slang.

No, I think I saw the tattoos of Mussolini and fascist imagery he has on his back and arms, the various Nazi salutes he's given (in public) and, erm, his own admission that he's a fascist (but apparently not a racist).

We all want the best for Charlton. We have a manager who we all adore. It's just supporters talking b######s. I'm not advocating getting rid of Powell. But if SCP went. Who is out there.

    Definitely not warnock.

    Where's De Matteo

Probably kicking back and enjoying the £200k/week Chelsea are still paying him.

I can't help but think that Powell, actually, ticks all five of the points on your list.

With that being the case if we are only looking to avoid relegation I can't see any point on making a change now.
