Whats the 49 years and counting thing about?

Feels a bit strange having an MLS club talk about "history over hype" when they've only existed since 2015?
49 years ago, the Minnesota Kicks were formed. The state's first professional football team. So, in the long tradition of teams claiming for themselves the history of a completely different club that we've before them - like Crystal Palace's embarrassing claim to be a nineteenth century football club, or AFC Wimbledon claiming to have won the FA Cup - Minnesota United "claim" to have a heritage that's almost as old as... David Beckham.

Their 49 year history is much like Crystal Palace's history - made up.

    1976 - 1981  - Minnesota Kicks
    1990 - 2004 - Minnesota Thunder
    2015  -present - Minnesota United

Minnesota wouldn't know culture if it drowned them in spray can cheese.

Fully support the trolling of opponents by social media teams. Beckham should be more thick skinned.
But English club social media trolling is laced with humour and good natured banter. This is typically American (at least in current circumstances), rude and divisive (and wrong).

Why can’t you take the piss out of a glamorous, rich team when you beat them? Get stuck in, I say.

Got to laugh at the irony of a club talking about history when their MLS history dates as far back as........2017.

I think Beckham is trying to get attention to the MLS. There wouldn't be a post on here if he didn't reply.
