Substitutions

Yikes, you all moaned at Powells substitutions.
Imagine if he'd have took a "striker" off in favour of Pritchard.
What has Roland done

  • Yeah, but I've played fifa once and made three attacking substitutions and went ultra attacking and we won, so I must be right.

From the sounds of it Pritchard played really well. More inspired than he has been for months.

Looked better when Reza went off.

More concerned that he took off our two strongest attacking threats (and yes I am talking about Sordell!)

It's not Riga wrong doing... He had an ear piece from Roland's microphone telling them him what to do ;-)

Reza played right wing and brought on Pritchard to play right wing . He took reza off straight after he dived mayb he didn't like it .

Also it was nice to see an early sub as the game was getting away from us makes a change .

If there was anything more stupid than playing Cousins as a right winger, it was playing him as a left winger!! How anyone could have thought that our chances of scoring would be improved by replacing Callum with Jordan is beyond me.

Bringing on Simon Church to change a game really is a sign of how weak we are up front.

Our players are just dreadful that's the point. They all need clearing out in the summer if we stay up,

And some of powells substitutions were really poor. Bringing on subs in the 85 min when we are 2-0 down. Subs like that really didn't make sense.

In January we needed a transition few small changes. Stability and a confidence boost was needed. Keep our squad together, few additions in positions where extra quality is needed (wide, upfront, attacking mid) and a extra body to assist CP/damo/AD. Instead we have done the complete opposite added pressure more questions then answers. We do need to have a clear out in the summer but I'm worried we will lose players that CP wanted to build the squad around and the big turnover in the summer won't be as positive as it was in our league one campaign.
  • Riga has obviously read The Numbers Game. The timing of the substitutions was consistent with its statistical analysis and recommendations. Its all about "Legs". Bit surprised Harriott went off rather than Ajdarevic. Thought Ajdarevic was blowing hard.

Only thing I would've done differently tonight is put Cousins on for the tired Ajdarevic, pushing JJ and Poyet up the pitch.

Would've probably left Sordell on too, or replaced him with Pritchard and pushed Reza up front where he could've potentially been more effective.

Ajdarevic has yet to last 90. Perhaps it might have helped by keeping him on. It did sound like he got a second wind and started to pick up before the end.

I think the intensity of the championship will hit those hard not use to the English game. Reason why CP was easing the new signings in. Kermorgant was the same when he arrived at Leicester. What worries me a little bit is Jose Riga might undermine the physical side of the championship, we need to be in good physical condition to compete. I know his training methods are more focused on the mental side of the game.

He's been there two days so it's hardly surprising if he isn't quite up to speed in all their strengths and weaknesses. Give him a chance for gawds sake.

We haven't got enough games for someone to get used to the English championship conditions.

Reza off for Pritchard was a good decision, we were being over over run on the right

    Agree

Pritch wasn't great (although he was clear in on goal if Sordell finds him with that blocked pass) but he stop us being overrun on the right where Reza had been invisible defensively.

According to some reports it was Alex Dyer in charge last night not Riga. If it was Riga then hooking Reza was long overdue, if it was Dyer then hooking Reza was long overdue too. Bringing on Pritch instead of Church at that time was the surprise for me.

Could take him a while to find their strengths !
