I took it up, had a pint of murphys in a glass before the game which was nice.
Free pint and a half at half time.
Worth an extra £150 a year? Never. It felt a bit like a glorified school hall.
I would do it if my kid could watch the players warm up etc but they had all the blinds down5 -

Had a free pint at HT. But as I don't buy/want a progaramme a £10 free HT pint is quite expensive.0

Nice pint before game in a real glass, quick pint at half time, another couple after the game. Dervite (voted MoM) spoke quite well and hot water in the gents. If money was not scarce I would go for it but could not afford the extra 230 quid it would cost this year (in fact, likely to have to move to the cheaper seats).1

I got there in time to watch the Man City v Southampton game, had a not too badly priced £1.90 for a small coke as I was driving. Came back at half time for two more cokes as they were only in small cups but it was easy to get there having left row QQ while the 1 minute of injury time was being played. Didn't return at full time though as already had evening plans by the time I got the vouchers through.
The only downside I would say was due to the blinds being down at half time there was no communication over the club's Valley Gold draw and whilst I appreciate an email is sent out later in the day to communicate this it would still have been nice if an announcement could have been made at the time.
Overall a good experience and only found out in the program that there's a Valley Gold discount on Crossbars - this hadn't been advertised on the season ticket application form and think the club may have missed a trick here as the price is an extra £205 instead of the advertised £230 meaning it's actually £8.91 a game if you're VG.0 -
IMO completely pointless to have the blinds down, surely that is half the selling point ? Used to love watching the players warm up/down when we used the bars back in the day.1

Don't they have to pull the blinds down 15 mins prior to kick off? FL rules I believe, it's to do with the Taylor report.1

Yep, alcohol cannot be consumed in certain parts of the ground where there is a view of the pitch.

Thought it was good. I'd never thought of going in, but good value food, quick service. Nice surroundings, I'd think about it.1

It is a stupid rule but it's not Charlton's.
I took up the offer and thought it was pretty good to be honest. I'm slightly dubious as to whether it would always be so easy to get a beer at half time (they were always going to make a special effort when trying to sell the season tickets!).
Personally, it depends what you want from your day at the football, if you want to make a day of it and have a few beers then I actually think it's alright value - my problem is I don't want to do that every week so would be much more inclined to take them up on it on a week to week basis than for a whole season.
Overall, no complaints from me though, think it's a decent initiative and was pretty well executed.1 -
Didn't and wouldn't use it myself, but surelyif you offer a "good service" and "reasonable products at reasonable prices" you wouldnt need to charge a entrance fee you would make it profitable by filling the place week in week out. I don't go to the lib for its exotic decoration and array of nibbles, I go to have a reasonably quickly served pint served by someone that understands if I order a pie and a pint that doesn't mean a coffee and a burger followed by a ten minute discussion on the amount of change I'm entitled to. If we're going be treated like customers then I'll vote with my feet and prefer to drink elsewhere.............*and breathe*.

I was in the same boat as you. Reading was the only full trial run this season and you can't reuse the tickets. But if you contact the club they will send you some free crossbar tickets to use for any remaining games so you can get a feel for the bar - I've got 2 for Yeovil. It was decent, service was good and polite - I liked all the staff wearing Charlton shirts, one in particular !
Realistically though I don't think I'd pay £230 a year;
a) because a big part of going to football is meeting people you know for a pint before/after. Unless you organise everyone you know to buy a crossbars package then you'll be undermining this
b) realistically unless you would normally buy a programme at an additional £10 per game, you'd have to drink 3 pints at half time, every half time to make it worth your while - that's actually pretty difficult
c) is it significantly better than, say, the Lib ?0 -

a) that's the big one for me. I sit next to Rodney (ex-of this parish) and some other friends so wouldn't really want a social activity that would exclude all of them.
b) there is a value associated with the quick service, proximity to my seat, food etc. Take the point though the value of the pint and the programme don't match the cost, especially since I don't even bother to flick through the programme - no disrespect to producers, it's just not content that I'm interested in.
c) for me, yes.0 -

Because I only go with one other person so I'm not gonna comment about meeting with friends when most of my pals are millwank fans.

I liked it, much better than I thought it would be. I agree with Matinho that they missed a trick by not highlighting the VG discount. Or VG missed a trick not using it as an incentive to join.1 -

If you don't like going to the pub.
If you have no friends.
If you buy/want a programme.
If you can drink 2 pints & go for a pee in 10 mins at half time.
