I have kept my gob shut all season, unlike loads on here, it always comes back to bite you on the arse, remember that Monday afternoon when Wednesday beat us. You all should have kept quiet until the end of the season.
As I said on the match thread on Tuesday, I don't trust the new owner, or the bit of fluff he's installed, as his eyes and ears at the Valley, as far as I can throw them. The man is interested in money first and money last. He has absolutely no interest in Charlton Athletic FC other than to sell it on at a profit at some stage in the future. If he had he would have given CP some money to buy a couple of players CP wanted in January, not the short term barrow load of crap he sent over the Channel to SE7.
Administration under the previous two buffoons would have been, possibly, a better option. After all Palace haven't done too bad out of it have they?
Nor Southampton.
Totally agree about Duchatelet and I've been saying it from Day 1. He is bad news. However I think we will stay up.
The biggest frustration is how our play breaks down in the final third. A lot of people have mentioned how well Simon Church played, both here and elsewhere. He was marginally better in my opinion, but still didn't offer anymore than he usually does. When he dropped off or ran the channel, it was often at the expense of anyone actually being in the box for a cross. I thought our positive play came through AA and Reza. Reza's getting better at holding the ball up, and AA was his usual composed self. We needed both I think to stay on, but I understand AA's fitness isn't up to scratch.
Even then we slow right down in that final third. For me it's about intent throughout the whole of the team. There was a point in the 2nd half when Cousins cut in from the right and rolled a tame left footed shot into the side netting. I understand it's his weaker foot, but it's symptomatic of the wider squad.
We probably haven't got a combination of forwards that will click between now and Blackpool, so our best hope is to keep it tight and hope we can knick a goal and other results go our way.
Could Poyet play further up? The reason I ask is, he's a naturally gifted footballer. I know he has space deep, and it is slightly easier to control the game, but I think why not?
For me Jackson had a poor game. Players play through him very easily. The amount of times I saw him standing and pointing at players like Fox yesterday was very poor. He looked dead on his feet by the end yesterday. As we have had a hard run in with 2 games a week, if he knows fitness wise he can't sustain 90 minutes, as captain, I'd expect him to manage his time on the pitch. The wider responsibility to the team is to maybe say to Riga, 'I'm knackered'.
Again the crowd were excellent yesterday, we've got to keep the support up during the games. We know our shortfalls. Our approach play is okay. You cannot say some of our passing from the likes of AA and Poyet isn't good. We knock the ball around okay, if we can just get a bit more thrust or movement in the final third then maybe.
As said elsewhere, for me at this stage in the season I won't focus on the poor aspects of our play, that is for Riga in training. I'm still backing us not to go down, because I believe if enough people do it, we'll transfer that to the team. We will survive.
Not that surprised that Millwall won, but at least Barnsley & Birmingham lost. Looks like 1 from 5 now to go down with Barnsley & Yeovil, just so long as it isn't us.
As for Cousins, yet another example of playing a player out of position, he is totally lost out wide. Keep doing this and the boy will lose all confidence. Thank the Lord that the other strugglers...apart from Millwall...are playing crap, how on earth can they get 3 points away to M'boro!?
In all honesty - Bolton have been on very good form ad we more than matched them. The problem is in the final third - that is where our lack of quality is glaring. We do need players to gamble more and get into the box, we also need a player who takes a central position in the box for when set pieces are cleared - The ball falls there reasonably often and if you are there you are in a good position to shoot - but none of our players put themselves in that position.
Ideally you want a midfielder doing that. I can't imagine the coaching staff don't go through the videos and show the players where they should be positioning themselves.
Wouldn't get too cocky - you're not out of it yet, either.
Did you say the same to your fellow charlton fans when they was talking about sending us down, and celebrating by getting dressed up as Ian holloway (very palace) on the final day of the season?
I think we need two more wins to be certain of safety. It could even be Charlton and Millwall staying up and Brum or Blackpool going down. Wigan will have a big say in that as they've got go play both of them. Hoping for a Millwall and Doncaster draw as well to keep them both in it.
as predicted scum stay up bore off now , well done, spawny mugs
If you'd seen any of our performances over the course of the season you'd know we've been anything but spawny. So many games we've been by far the better team but come away with nothing. Anyway, think we'll both stay up now. (Yeovil, Barnsley and Blackpool to go down) It's next season I'd be worrying about if I was a Charlton fan.

One would think we'd sign a striker or two
I like what's coming out of our camp. The chairman stated a few weeks ago, if we stay up or go down, changes are going to be made throughout the club as things haven't been right for a few years now. (Only stayed up last season by the skin of our teeth)
Your fella owns like ten clubs doesn't he? How can he focus on Charlton and what needs to be put right with all those?

Yes, but you have the overwhelming handicap of being Millwall, which means you will never achieve anything whatever the chairman does.

I wrote Millwall off a few weeks ago (after they lost 2-3 to Birmingham) but in the following 5 games they won Wigan Forest and Boro away and had draws against Watford and Blackburn, 11 points in their last 5 games, they will stay up now.

I had written us off as well to be honest. It's a funny old game though ain't it.

And we are meant to be the trainspotters.
