Charlton Atheltic "B" Team!!

It seems the FA are looking at allowing Premier League & Championship teams to run a "B" team in a new/amalgamated league blending League 2 plus the Conference!

Any views?

    I don't think there's enough info there yet to make a judgement. To start with it doesn't suggest how 44 teams will fit into one league? Gut reaction is that it's unnecessary - just bring back the football combination.

    All they need is a proper reserve league again. When we had players down at East Kent Addicks meeting this season they all said that they want a reserve league back. U21 games are not good enough as only 3 over 21 players can play, and they are not regualr enough. It is hard to arrange friendly games, and the U21s need to be playing against first team players from other sides, not just players their own age.

    This is just to allow the Premiership clubs to give a game to the millions of players they sign rather than loaning them out. I'm sure it will in no way be beneficial to the smaller sized clubs.

    Absolutely detest the idea. Doesn't seem fair that the lower leagues should be infiltrated by reserve sides simply because the almighty Premier League doesn't give a toss about English footballing development.

    Chatting about this on R5L atm, guy on there has just said the same regarding young foreign players.

    If i was a fan of a club in League Two, I would feel insulted by this suggestion, seems like the FA are implying it is ok to mess with their league, as it's not like they are playing serious football like the so called "big clubs".

    Duchalet's model in one country. It is an interesting debate.

    How could we devise a system which retains the independence of Conference and lower league clubs ,but builds relationships with them which can be of mutual benefit to both?

    Before they left Underhill ,Barnet used to host Arsenal's U21's and Wenger has even speculated that the Bees would make a good feeder club for the Gunners . Chelsea basically bailed out Aldershot last season to prevent them going out of business,

    I do not have a problem until it reaches a point when it compromises the smaller clubs independence. How far up the leagues would they be allowed to play?

    Yeah the reason the England team is not as good as Germany or Spain is because Man United and Chelsea reserves are not playing against Dagenham & Redbridge in League 2. So ignore any proper change in the England set up while destroying 125 years of Football League tradition by dumping B teams in there who don't care about the league they are playing in.

    And maybe the next step to popularise the "brand" would be to have some of those B teams play their home games elsewhere, to raise their profile and brand awareness? Man Utd couldn't play their B team fixtures at OT - think of the wear and tear - so how about giving their southern based support a chance to see the reserves and young players, by building a small stadium say, near that football academy in Greenwich?

    what they should really do though is have pretty decent prize money for u21 premier league and sell the tv rights for it to a freeview channel. Would gather passing interest from fans and encourage clubs to be competitive in the u21 leagues, but also not being do or die so they dont flood it with foreigners.

    So if we get relegated we could play Man Utd B. No thanks.

    Would only encourage the top clubs to sign even more young players that are never going to get near their first team, which is already a problem. Then how long until they want a C team?

    30 and almost all of them are playing at a higher level than League Two.

    Another terrible idea from inept and blundering idiots at the FA. What about the non league clubs and the position in the overall structure ? The integrity and competitiveness of non top level football would be totally undermined.

    This. All our promising kids would be snapped up with PL clubs having 25 players and B teams having 25 players and 28 other players out on loan. Another nail in the coffin. Ridiculous idea, and so utterly self indulgent by the larger clubs that sadly, it will probably end up happening.

    Just think, two years time, all PL clubs have a B team, we are relegated to League One and get beat by Crystal Palace B team, would certainly trump the defeat against Daggers a couple of years back.

    If they think this would galvanise the England team, it shows how stupid they are! A young player can gain experience of competitive football by going out on loan when they are ready. The advantage of this is, they go into a team at the right level for where they are. The problem is of course, if you want to see ideas that will actually make the England team more competitive, they will be easy to spot as the Premier league members – at least the main ones - will be strongly opposed to them.

    My opinion when I first read this on the BBC website was unprintable. Once again the FA kowtows to the whims of the big clubs rather than concentrating on the needs of the game as a whole.

    Terrible idea. Just by being suggested it essentially shows that the FA could not give a toss about any club from League 1 or 2.

    Real fans don't count. It's all about filling the FA's coffers at the end of the day.

    If it does happen, there should be a break-away league set up for those clubs that want nothing to do with it and nothing to do with the FA.

    Presume the expectation would be for these clubs to play mainly British based players in these "B" teams rather than just using them a games for squad players or the high number of overseas players in many of the big clubs youth system?

    Very surprised and disappointed at Dyke's comments from this... Seeing he was the Chairman of Brentford a few years back you'd have thought the FA would be getting someone in who understands Football (especially the Lower League clubs and their fans) and who hasnt been corrupted by the Premier League, doesnt seem to be the case though.

    Surely this is a bigger issue as well... Man City trying to poach a 9-year old?
