A real shame of so, him and Barkley were by far our best players.
Think the main thing tonight showed is that beyond the first choice back 6 (including Gerrard), we're very weak, but going forward there's some decent depth. Which is pretty much what we knew anyway.
Thought Jagielka should have played at least some part, he needs minutes under his belt just as much as Rooney does due to injuries before the end of the season.
Not too much to be surprised by there. Phil Jones was pretty shit and Chris Smalling is comically bad, we desperately need a few decent young CBs to come through in the next year as those two are a liability, if we get an injury and have to use them we are in trouble. Milner can't play RB which means that we'll have to rely on Johnson, who is also sub par.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was excellent and Barkley had his moments. Rooney seemed to be his usual tournament self but hopefully he can play himself into form. Wilshere has gone from looking like a player who instinctively made the right decision to one who chooses the wrong option constantly, so looks like Gérrard and Henderson is the best bet as the two central options.
Lambert is an intelligent player and is a decent backup for Sturridge.
Hopefully a team of Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Gerrard, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberalain, Rooney, Lallana, Sturridge will be enough to Lead us to glory, Get us to the semis, get us out of the group.
Awful tackle for a friendly. Don't blame Valencia at all for his reaction. Two yellows would have sufficed, but the two reds will do both players a favour in the long term; they will hopefully think twice in two weeks' time.
Townsend has been astonishing, even for him. "Valencia should have wagged his finger!"
Andy "I'm irish even though i'm born and raised in gillingham" Townsend is second only to mark lawrenson as the worst co commentator on television. He's a prat.
Didnt realise that Italy are now winless in 7 games after their draw with Luxembourg tonight- that will all change next saturday then !
"A reminder. In [almost] 4 years under Prandelli, Italy have only lost 2 competitive games in 90 mins. The Euro 2012 final and Confederations group game vs Brazil"

How many competetive games have we lost in 90 mins under Hodgson?
Are we playing players who will not be in Brazil ?
Seriously, did we put players on the pitch who were known not to be in the final squad ? i don't understand.
Don't think the final squad has been done yet? And with the bubble wrap off of the Arsenal boys there's always a chance that we might have to dip into the reserve tank.

Just had a little look through the records and we have lost 2 competitive games in 90 mins since 2008

Bear in mind they've had more games due to getting further in tournaments and the Confederations cup.

Defensively a shambles, but it was the second choice back four. I thought Jones played well and would like to see him at right back on Saturday as I think Johnson is a liability.
The Ox and Barkley were the stand-outs. Both had real energy, pace and power and looked great technically. They created the 2 goals.
I was impressed by Lambert. For such a big guy, he can drop deep brilliantly and has good vision. As we saw with his goal, he has a very powerful strike.
No way can Wilshere start any game for England. He's so over-rated it's scary. He needs to learn to pass the ball much quicker, right now he's useless as he's on the ground 90% of the game.
The Sterling red card was the correct decision IMO - studs up, over the ball and reckless.
I wonder if he will carry on with "That's International football for you", whenever something absolutely normal happens in the world cup. Even when he does the voiceover at half time for the prize draw it does my head in!
"In International Football they strike the ball so hard" was a personal favorite.
And not long after that, the bloke involved, Arroyo I think, hit one that went well wide and barely crossed the line. The commentator had a little dig, I'm glad to say.

Every time he takes to the field he will score I'm telling ya ...get on it!

But I think they'll have enough about them to beat us - especially in that heat, as they are far better on the ball.
Antonio acted like an idiot though, that was deffo a straight red.
