Must have stood on a 4 leaf clover, ridiculous number of misses by Argentina then they get a gift.

    Byl,
I can understand your pride - Belgium are now a serious international team brimful of excellent players, I wish them all the best at the forthcoming World Cup.
One of your claims has however confused me! The statement in question was in your 10:41 post earlier today when you claimed -
But then again belgian clubs reached 10 european cup finals in 10 years in that period as well, so begian footbaal was really good at that time and age.
Are we talking the 'European Cup' because I'm struggling to find 10 Belgian teams reaching the final during this period.
No disrespect intended - I'm just confused.

here you go - that was the golden age of belgian football

quite a few semi final spots as well but these are the clubs that reached the finals in the european competitions in the late 70's and the 80's

anderlecht - west ham united 1976
    club brugge - liverpool 1976
    anderlecht - hamburg 1977
    anderlecht - austria wien 1978
    club brugge - liverpool 1978
standard de liege - barcelona 1982
    anderlecht - benfica 1983
    anderlecht - tottenham 1984
    kv mechelen - ajax 1988
    anderlecht - sampdoria 1990

after that our clubs became like they were before 1975 - a few levels below the top europeans teams bar the occasional exception/lucky run

but in that period belgium was constantly in the top 5 of the uefa-rankings

PS @sensei - there is no such thing as belgian pride - belgium is just an accident of history - some lines on the map that were drawn by the big european powers which they called belgium - in an area that was invaded and conquered more than any other region in europe throughout history - it's not a real country with a national feeling, it's just 11 million people who happen to be born or live within those borders - the least chauvinistic country in europe :)

Yup. So I recommend the outfield players of T&T right now. Williams having a torrid day out there. Mitchell has been awful, but he's playing in the USA and appears to be a favourte of the NT manager - there's no other reason he would be on the pitch in front of Abu Bakr

Have they got any really shit players that we can take on loan?

Dudu Duhan is on the phone to Bob & Roland as we speak....
From the evidence you've provided, i would suggest that he's a much better option than Church.

    Hey BYL can you give me your opinion on this please;

    http://www.dhnet.be/sports/football/division2/vise/le-cs-vise-passe-officiellement-aux-mains-des-anglais-537e05693570102383cee6ee

Does this Lawyer have any links you know of? He's confirming the Trinibagonians being brought in at some point, but still no word on actual ownership

don't know the guy (the lawyer i mean)

Anyway i still think it is very very unlikely that RD has something to do with it. La derniere heure is one of the bigger newspapers in the walloon part of belgium and not a quality newspaper, but more like a tabloid. If it had even crossed their minds that RD were involved in this they would for sure mention the possibility.

  • BYL, You should come over to London one weekend and come have a drink and watch a game with some of us lifers, Then you can get pounded with the many questions we all have haha ^^

Does this article say Standard is playing a friendly with Visé? Standard don't have it on their list of fixtures

CS Visé signed Rundell Winchester and Willis Plaza from Trinidad - Plaza scored 14 goals in 7 games and was offered (relatively) big money to stay in Trinidad. Rundell Winchester is a future T&T star, incredibly quick. I really hope we get one of them on loan sometime! Genuinely, less so Plaza, but Winchester could really do a number as an impact sub with his pace

Definitely, if you google his highlights there's a couple juicy goals in there. Plaza's played in Vietnam for a while and got capped against Argentina and Iran for T&T, but he's 26, so Winchester has to be the one to look at (20 years old)

Can't get confirmation, it was the rumour that I heard (other rumours related to CS Visé have come true so far, can't confirm this one) but given the lack of substantiation maybe not. So far we know it was taken over by "English and Belgian investors", they appointed an English lawyer to head it temporarily, and that they had a friendly with STVV (in our network), who also just signed a defender off them; http://www.voetbalnieuws.be/news/127083/OFFICIEEL:_STVV_haalt_twee_versterkingen_in_huis

Trinidad has a number of good domestic strikers (League one/two quality if I'm being conservative) - Winchester's competing with Trevin Caesar (just transferred to San Antonio Scorpions), Willis Plaza, Kenwyne Jones, Cornell Glenn (playing in India), Jamal Gay (playing in Finland, appears to have switched to being a DM) and Marcus Joseph (top scorer in the TT Pro league). I really wish Charlton had so many options up front!
  • CS Visé just loaned another Standard player - Simon Ligot (or something) and bought another two Trinidadians - Kevon Villaroel (a good left-back, could play League Two or One maybe) and Elton John (Probably a League Two Centre Back).
