Sky Box Help

edited June 2014 in General Charlton
Hi All,

I have just done 5 resets on my sky box, done the switch mains on and pressing backup and 4/5 times and even done one where you press the left and right arrow arrow, wait for the blue circle, press select twice and wath the blue light and red light go anticlockwise and then stop. My Box then goes to green and then back to amber. Shall I give up the ghost and order a new box? They did offer me an engineer but I don't want to wait for an engineer to come down and say "sorry son its kaput" and then I have to re-order a new box??

  • I would tell them to send you one FOC or you'll cancel your subscription.
  • thanks Stone. I have now managed to get a pic. but recordings are not showing. I am back to 100% availibility and finally I didn't really wanted to set my box to scratch but had no choice in the end. Lost all my recordings but it is better than having no pic since 7.40pm yesterday. It is like playing twister trying to reset books and pressing on mains and holding buttons !!
  • Have you deleted all the stuff you have watched !
If I remember on the Planner button if you go to the left if will show what you have watched and removed from your planner but its not deleted from the box witch could/can take up all yr space and cause it to not work delete them and hopefully it will work
  • There was a scam where a company used to call people up and ask if they wanted to cover their Sky box for £x per month.
I always had this argument with them (not knowing it was a scam) that if my box blew up I would cancel my subscription unless they replaced it free. I'm still waiting for that to happen.
  • yeah deleted everything unfortunatelty. I had to. Got a pic but turning channels is slow and I have tried recording as a test. Either I it is not accepting the time and doesnt stick with recordings I e you press yellow button to confirm and does nothing and the ones I am testing at the moment Iie 8.00 to 8.15 BBC1 red button is on lit but nothing is showing on my planner, no recordings, no recording. I will see how it is in an hour an hopefully it will sort it self out. Don't want to rish switching on mains and losing picture as well and be back to square 1
  • It's usually the infamous capacitors that are pegging out. The annoying thing is it's a really cheapo component.
This firm do replacement kits and tell you how to do the repair. While you need to be confident in messing about with electronics to effect a repair it might be worth having a look. to see if the tops of the capacitors are bulging. (Don't forget to discharge the leccy and ground yourself though!)
