My friends work one was done on a different basis in that the team had to reach a certain level to get a share of the money.
This means even if you get a crap team, you could get a share of the pot if they managed to get through the group stages. The amount of winners is not known until after the even but they all get an equal share of the pot.

Not entered one, prefer the odds you get at the bookies! Unless you get 1 of 4 teams, they're not worth doing.
Statistically they are better value for money than a bookies, just so you know
How on earth do you come to that conclusion?
I dunno mine cost £5 and the winner gets £96 I am sure if I put £5 on at the bookies I would win more than £96 for Australia
For Australia yes, for Brazil, no.
Basically think of it this way, if you were to go to a bookies and bet on a coin flip, you wouldn't get odds of evens, they would still have to have a slight edge, whereas in a sweepstake at work, if all the money is redistributed, you are getting better odds at the time of the draw than you would at the bookies, its just a lottery as to what you get.
Effectively there is no book to mark up on.
It's the same concept of how its better to put a bet on than play the lottery, because such a large proportion of the lottery money goes to good causes (bah humbug). So you are better off putting a £2 accumulator that could pay out £14 million rather than putting £2 in a lottery ticket which has a £14 million prize fund.
Croatia. Everyone at my work is a tightarse though so it was only a quid.
Yeah I have this as well. Have organised a couple myself in the past and suggested raising the stakes to the dizzy heights of £2 a throw but was met with glares, stony silence and threats to boycott as "they are not made of money..."
But there are 26 guaranteed losing tickets in a sweepstake, I'd rather pick one of the 6 with a chance of winning in in the bookies. You may as well divide your £5 into 32 for a sweepstake or divide it up into 6 in the bookies. You've got a one in 6 chance of picking a potential winner in a sweepstake you may as well use that fiver and have have your own pick of one of other super '6'

I know what on about even if nobody else does
Care to agree to get a tattoo of the winning team tatooed on your arse if one of the "Big 6" don't win?
