So much for my Mexico, Spain Chile treble.

Can't legislate for that though. Well played Holland!
  • Fantastic game, the World Cup just started for real, what a huge message that result sends, not only the Dutch leap frogging many teams in favourites for winning the tournament but that Spain really are there to be beaten, if you have a go at them.

I can't remember a better header than that? (Rufus aside).

Jesus wept, straight into the all time list.

Paul Davis v us at Highbury wasn't bad.....
Shaun Newton versus Huddersfield, I think, was pretty good too. But the Van Persie was just unbelievable.

Robben and Van Persie will win the World Cup dual-handed if they keep up this form. Unplayable.

Not so long ago we were able to watch the likes of Robben and van Persie at The Valley.....

Oh well we've got Reza as our World cup player.

It's also not so long ago that we had players who could match them in a game and stop them.
    Indeed.

There's a lot I don't like about the Premiership but when I see players I've watched live against my own team play like that it does make me think how far we've sunk.

They started very slow though and could've been 2 down had Silva scored, but that goal just before half time seems to have totally wiped Spain out mentally.

    5-1 lol

Robben is a better player now that he was at Chelsea.

Trust someone to bring Wednesday up during a world cup game, but I can understand why...;)

5-1 was 500/1 with Paddy Power and they had two winners!

Absolutely, but I remember watching the Cloggies destroy France at Euro 2008. They went on to lose to Russia in the knockout phase.

That's how the Dutch should've played in the 2010 final only Advocaat believed the hype and went defensive. Where's Leroy? Been waiting 4 years for that big fella!!

Agreed - Spain showed their infamous mental frailty tonight and the Dutch are just as capable of imploding.

Extraordinary game and result - didn't see that coming, for sure. Poor old Casillas had a nightmare and Robben ran Pique and Ramos ragged. A complete humiliation for Spain and, while they may still qualify, I think they have been dealt a telling psychological blow tonight.

Very entertaining and an added bonus - reasonably competent officials for a change. The linesman in the Mexican games should be sent back to the Colombian Sunday league. How do FIFA select these officials ?

That cracked me up when I saw that live. Properly trying to wind Costa up haha.
  • I worry a bit when Thierry tells me twice that the goalkeeper made himself big

Not one person predicted this score in the CL WC prediction league. Shocking.

Think you are getting a tad carried away. Spain played poorly especially Casillas.

What a game, what an evening. Watching with my dutch step father and johan and loads of other folk was superb. My old dears must be one of the few places in the country with orange and st george draped all over it as she has done every recent tourni.

Sorry Leroy but that was a masterclass in chucking a spanner in the tika taka.

Someone won the euromillions in Spain tonight. £109million. Casillas must have got the call before kickoff.

To be fair thought Netherlands looked poor prior to their first goal.

Agree. However the third Dutch goal (RVP's challenge on the keeper) takes us back to the disallowed Croatian second. Can anyone spot the difference? Mr Splatter, I'm talking to you. Well? All part of the glorious unpredictability of the game, you say? Sorry Mr Splatter, I don't trust you and your corrupt organisation. I want ice-hockey style video back-up, now.

I wouldn't agree they looked poor but I was preparing to post that RVP and Robben needed to step up and show for it more...when he scored that header. I decided to keep my powder dry on that piece of expert analysis :-)

Still can't get my head around that result!

Am delighted it happened though. Not because I have any ill will towards Spain (if anything I want them to do well to shut up all the hipsters trying to slag them off constantly), but it was just amazing to watch a game that will still be talked about in years/decades to come.

No defending champion or top team has been decimated like that at the World Cup as far as I can remember. Has to be one of the biggest shocks in the history of the tournament.
