Sorry @Curb_It, I've tried to but when I click edit and then try to click in the post to edit it, it goes back to buried again. I would do if I could. Apologies again, it was an ill judged attempt at a bit of humour on my part, I dont bare the bloke or his family any harm.Curb_It said:
its been buried as you are racking up the flags on it... but why dont you go back and delete it... in your defence..JohnBoyUK said:Ok people, enough of the hatred. I admit that was not my wisest move but I did strike out the big fat bit in my defence. Apologies for the offence.

Agree. I don't think they care what he did, just would have known how much money he had because his earnings (like all footballers and celebs) seem to be more public knowledge than others.Henry Irving said:
Yes, perhaps they knew the man of the house was away but I still doubt they cared who he was or how he'd made his moneykings hill addick said:
I agree with most of that except that I suspect they knew who they were targeting. I mean, Wrighty is on the tele in Brazil - I think they knew it was his house. I agree that they don't care what he did for a living, now or in the past, but my best guess is that they knew who he was, and that he was away.Henry Irving said:
I doubt they knew or even cared that it was an ex-footballer's house. They just robbed a house in a well off area.kings hill addick said:I'm not defending the actions of the low lives but, sadly, this is what happens in a society where some have excessive wealth, and presumably don't hide it, and others have very little.
I'm far from a socialist, but I do understand the dilemmas that very poor people have when they see others (and a professional footballer come media personality is an ideal example) that have loads more than they have. I can understand why people ask the question "Why does (s)he deserve to have so much more than me?"
Sadly, I think that as time goes on, we will hear of more and more of these type of incidents. I'm not saying that the likes of Lineker et al don't deserve the money they get paid, but they must realise that there are many people that are jealous of their wealth, and that they are targets.
If they were stealing to feed their starving kids then perhaps I could give them some sympathy but if so go and shoplift food from a supermarket.
But they didn't. They choose to threaten women and children with knives.
Sure some people are jealous of other peoples wealth and there are inequalities in the system that leave some poor and some rich but knife crime like this is not a redistribution of wealth or a blow for the revolution. It is just a nasty, greedy grab for what others have and the criminals want.
Just for clarity, I have no sympathy with those that did this, I just don't find it staggeringly surprising, that is all!0 -
Gutting to hear this , i thought when i opened the thread it was going to say in Brazil , but then say it says it happened to his family in London , not in Brazil.0

Is there anything to back that up? I've always been very uncomfortable when people make unfounded claims about a crime being "on the rise".Absurdistan said:Sadly happening way to much these days.
Being soft on crime obviously works. Not.0 -
One would hope that Wright has CCTV on his property and the scum that did this can be identified.0

Aggravated burglarys are horrible. From my thinking, a lot of the time people will commit aggravated burglaries when the victim may have upset the suspect at some stage in the past but that's in terms of business. I don't understand why someone would commit an aggravated burglary. You open yourself up to getting caught more and burglary is hard enough to cope with as it is!
What a horrible thing to happen to Wright and his family. I hope that he and his wife are okay and I hope that his children are too young to register what's happened.
Scummy crime but the criminal justice system are too lenient with them. Scum.0 -

I certainly had something in my eye when I watched that. I maintain to this day it was a fly. Wright was the year above me in Gordonbrock Primary School. When I told her that, my missus came out with the classic, 'Did you recognise him?' which is just stupid on so many levels.Plaaayer said:That short documentary about him Nothing to Something had me proper choked up. When he spoke about his dad and his stepdad and how he wouldn't let them watch match of the day and waiting for his dad because he needed a new pair of trousers. Still amazes and disgusts me how people can treat their kids.
As if that wasn't bad enough, when his old school teacher turns up, who he thought was dead. I was in bits!
Well worth watching if you can find it.

Can't help but like Ian Wright. Fantastic player who I would have loved to have seen play for us. Classic example to any young player to never give up. He proved a lot of people wrong that he could make it as a professional footballer.
Hope him and his family are well and they catch the scum responsible0 -
All must be OK as he is now firmly back in Brasil0

I was surprised to see him on ITV tonight, thought it was well to soon after what had happened0

I think I am correct in saying that the Police confirmed a couple of years back that criminal gangs were actively seeking out and burgling the homes of wealthy footballers - partly because they knew they would have plenty of cash and valuables on the premises.
Am pretty sure that a couple of Liverpool and Everton players got robbed at their homes a couple of years back.0
