Delort is a reason you shouldn't knock one off over a you tube video clip.3

Where have you looked for Andy ?8 -
It's interesting that Sakho for West Ham scored less goals in the same division as Delort and has had a big impact in a higher league.3

I admit to wanting him to come when we appeared to have the money. Thank goodness Roland stood his ground, and that Uwe wanted to annoy Bob, my worry now is why we were in for him in the first place, was Bob seduced by the YouTube as many of us were? In this case I really hope it has been a salutory lesson well learned.0

I would have thought BP would have been told by RD that Delort was coming, unless he did not want him0

I can see his old man though!!cafcfan said:0 -

But as with anything his value was based on what we were willing to pay. Maybe BP did "want him" but at a sensible price. £500k-1m would have been sensible, his stats from last season justify that as a punt if the money was available. £3m (or whatever Wigan paid) clearly wasn't.seth plum said:I admit to wanting him to come when we appeared to have the money. Don't get this. I thought he wanted to come here but we didn't want to pay the fee Tours wanted? In fact, I'm pretty sure that was the case.smiffyboy said:Money ain't everything mind you it's seems it was for him

Agree with this to an extent. I got a little over excited over a few YouTube clips, but still think it is way too early to write him off. As explained earlier on the thread, Arsene Wenger says he gives his players upto six months to adapt to the change on culture, style of football, family upheaval etc. I think the reaction to Delort's slow start is a symptom of our fast paced, instant gratification society where results are expected instantly. Not sure he'll cut it, but he definitely needs the rest of the season to settle.seth plum said:I admit to wanting him to come when we appeared to have the money. A lot of fans on here didn't give the Liege loans six months last January!
Tucudean is getting six months because we haven't got anyone any better.
We clearly dodged a bullet here and I trust we have other targets lined up ready to help us keep climbing the league. I've not looked at December games let alone January but many sides are very similar.
For the first time in many many years the future of CAFC is 100% in the hands of the board ~ they clearly have cash available and if the can identify and land a couple of decent players, it won't take six months to improve on what is already an impressive start.1 -
Do we actually have any evidence that we were seriously interested in him? I think all that happened was that his family and the Tours chairman generated so much hype that we almost inevitably took a look to make sure we weren't missing out on something. At least 15 clubs were "linked" with him before we were. That speaks volumes.seth plum said:I admit to wanting him to come when we appeared to have the money. I remember that quote. However I'd be very interested to learn when and by what process we became "interested" in him, and what exactly we "discussed" (it could have been just "How much are you really asking for this geezer")North Lower Neil said:

If we had identified him through our scouting process, surely we would have been in early, before anyone else had heard of him, (e.g. Igor)? Did/does Phil Chapple rate him? Did/do other network scouts? Did Standard look at him? Their name cropped up early, but then disappeared quickly, but it was then three weeks of pan European hype before our name came into the frame.
Something isn't right there, it never was. Several of us smelt a rat at the time, and said so on here, to considerable criticism and derision, and events proved us right (that he wasn't coming to us).

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I think both club and agent were peddling him around to maximise fee, signing on fee and wages (which they did), but I think our interest was genuine.0

Good point. Having scored what I consider to be 2 very good goals and 2 assists, I would like such an approach to be given to Tucudean.Addick in SW16 said:Addick in SW16 said:

What a surprise this might be happening.....................GretnaGreenAddick said:
Just to be clear, i don't mean this in i think he will be awful because he did not sign for us, just that the way this deal has gone about has disaster written all over it and agree with what some other posters have suggested that what he really wanted was a decent deal in the top tier of French football but in the end he has taken the best deal at the club Tours have agreed a fee with.GretnaGreenAddick said:He will be back playing in France this time next year IMO.
I think he will end up on a loan with a view to buy deal at a Ligue 1 club for the 15/16 season.
Especially when Wigan are desperate to sell once that parachute money runs out and they have not got promoted again.1 -
#let'sgettofiftypages might be on again if this were to happen0

Good call GGA0

I was not the only one to make that prediction but must admit, i thought he would be slightly less of a disaster and would stick it out for an extra month before throwing in the towel at Wigan.Addickted said:Good call GGA
