Grassroots football in Crisis

That was the headline in the Independent.
There is a league in Tolworth that is called the Primary Boys Football League. They take on all children including ones with disabilities.
Four hundred and fifty youngsters play on a Saturday and all are guaranteed to play a significant part in a match. Bearing that in mind basically there were three months that went missing last season due to waterlogged pitches.
Apparently we need 2000 3G pitches at a cost of £600,000 to be able to give most youngsters of being able to play football on a regular basis on first class pitches and the social interaction cannot be understated.
We all know most kids live to play football as we all did.
To be honest £600,000 is not a lot to the football authorities; premier league clubs or their employees and they could make a massive difference with ease.
Apparently Greg Dyke's report is out on Friday re grassroots football.
Will things change significantly. You would have to say the jury is out on that one. Stand up Sir Trevor Brooking.

With the amount of money swimming about in the Prem, I would implore those with the financial clout in the game to donate this to sport England/The FA, whoever has responsibility to put these pitches in place. is this £600,000 per pitch, or 2000 pitches across the UK at a cost of £600,000?
  • Lets hope they read CL cabbles

Haha - As a collective we put the world to rights on a daily basis........
  • Your find that the 4g pitch at the meridian cost over £600k
So it will be each so an awful lot of money
  • If an order for 2000 pitches goes in surely the price will be reduced even if its done over the next 10 years 20 a year x £500k only 10 million a year between 20 pl clubs
  • That half million per PL club per year would be much better spent to improve grass routes by letting them carry on pinching 17 year olds under EPPP rules and throwing them into their already over populated academies though.

Sorry that was not clear. Yes £600000 per pitch.

That is very cynical. Unfortunately I think you are bang on.

  • Am I the only one who sees the irony in an article about grass-roots football wanting 4G pitches?...........
