England v Estonia

  • 2 whole hours I'll never get back :(
  • I'll usually defend Rooney but tonight he was dreadful.

Chambers was pony. Welbeck back to his worst. Baines not the same player he is for Everton.
  • None of them out of second gear if I was Roy I'd be worried
  • 3 wins out of 3, 3 clean sheets. Job done in my opinion.

Lots of big nations slipping on banana skins at the moment. It aint great but we will be there in France. These teams are good at making it difficult and in the first half we could of been out of sight.

  • I gave up on england after Euro 2012, gave them a 2nd chance at the World Cup this year but now I could not care about england.
  • Put that performance in against a team like Chile and it wouldn't be a 2-0 loss like last time, it would be 5-0 loss.
  • Just found out that this game happened. Thought it was tomorrow. Looks like I dodged a bullet.

Anyone else see the "Millwall on Tour" flag!

Met them in Ukraine and they seemed liked nice blokes, not the expected utter morons.
  • Cannot wait for wayne to be England manager

I'll be seeing you in France then.
  • I don't even watch the games anymore. But you might see me
  • on the plus side, Wiltshire looks like he's finding his game again

Perhaps he borrowed Rooney's. :-) Disappointing performance no width, which the fullbacks should have provided given the diamond formation employed. Baines not the player he was last season and step forward Joe Gomez in a couple of years time as Chambers won't keep you out of the side on these two appearances. The game was crying out for the Ox or Townsend at half time. Thanks to a Weetabix save by their keeper for the goal, red faces were avoided! Still very much a work in progress.
  • Chambers is a CB not RB, just because Roy plays him out of position dos not make him shit. I bet if you put Cahill at RB he'd look weak going forward.

Thought the formation looked ok yesterday, we could have been 4-0 up if we'd taken some of the chances then it wouldn't have been an issue.

Terrible game to watch but I'm not worried for our place at the finals, and that's what this team is building towards.

I've never seen Chambers play in the flesh mate or followed his career but according to Wiki his natural position was fullback.

On 10 August, Chambers made his competitive debut for Arsenal, playing the full 90 minutes of the 2014 FA Community Shield against Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley Stadium. Playing at centre back instead of his usual right back position to cover for Per Mertesacker, he gained widespread praise for his commanding and mature performances at centre back against the Premier League champions,

Nathanial Clyne is a more comfortable attacking right back and would have been my preferred choice and Joe Gomez is also a CB but looks better at RB than Chambers did, just my opinion like.
  • Well if that is the case then he/Wenger should have a rethink... Thought he played CB for Soton but am probably mistaken.

Agree on Clyne, would have liked to see him get a game (along with Shelvey). He's pretty exciting going forward.
  • In both of the last two games there were not enough shots from distance when opportunities were there to have a go.
  • None of them out of second gear if I was Roy I'd be worried

Club managers probably tell their players to 'take it easy .. after all it's only Estonia' (e.g. Sterling too tired to play , Sturridge not selected).. The club v country problem is decades old, it's not getting resolved anytime soon

  • Stones would have been the right back I suspect if fit.

Chambers is seen as a centre half but has had a lot of bookings so something much be an issue.

Rooney was going to be taken off it seems - that would have cause a few headlines!
  • Wenger is using him at centre half - was full back for Soton.

was full back and soton and played understudy for... Yep, you guessed it! Nathaniel Clyne...

I'll admit I've never been his biggest fan, but Rooney seems to have gone a fair bit backwards to me

I have to agree with you, apart from his goal, and people will say that is what counts, I thought he was a weak link going forward, missed more shots than anyone else and made a few bad passes. Am I the only one that thinks Chambers is not England material? I have watched both of England's last two games, and do not rate him at all, I know he is young, but what he cost from Southampton I would expect more.
Is Rooney the first England striker whose goal tally is higher than his IQ?

His post match interview was the highlight of the ITV coverage.

Like an in depth interview with a bag of cement.

  • Just back. Concerning the weekend -

    1. Tallinn is a nice city, especially showing its Autumn colours
    2. The Estonians are very friendly
    3. As usual we met up with many England away fans - always good to see them again
    4. There were trams (and trolleybuses)
    5. Lufthansa is not a great airline
    6. An international football match took place and England won 1-0.

    Er, that's it.

Ffs all the things to slate Rooney for, his post interview technique?

When you have his technique on the ball, then you criticise his oratory skills. Until then jogg on :)

Actually, when faced with the question re his supposed substitution, he dealt with it well considering its potentially embarrassing implications for Wazza. Again, TV stations trying to create non-story headlines when they should just concentrate on the product...the game of football.

I bet he gave a better television interview than you would, who wants to listen to monotonous grumpy drivel all the time?

Support the team, support the nation. We cant complain about playing dinosaur football and then also complain when we spend time trying to unlock a team through precision passing.

Delph was quality and although a sending-off is around the corner with his tendancy to dive in, his energy and passing technique are made for international football. Wilshere was also great.

Rooney was lively albeit let down by execution. Welbeck had a mare because he isnt a player that can afford not to be the hardest worker, his technique isnt good enough for him to float around the park like he did last night.

I am really enjoying the insistence on keeping possession and playing modern day football under Woy. 10 years ago we might have kicked and battered Estonia off the pitch through physique, I actually prefer watching the 2014 crop passing them to death.
    Could have been 5-0 easy.
  • Could be worse, could be losing 2-0 to Iceland...
  • Average team against a team determined to get stuck in and give a good account. The win was all important, not the performance.I thought Rooney was one of our better players.
  • Cracking few days away. Riga brilliant, Tallinn brilliant, now hanging in Helsinki.

I'll be honest the game bored me to death.
  • Well done guys.

I have my eyes on Slovenia June 2015
