Only half watching so just a quick glimpse but did I see Ken From Bexley on the news tonight being interviewed re World War 1 soldiers?
Well spotted 'Len'...... That is me with my younger brother. Very moving ceremony, and done with immense style/dignity most of the soldiers there were auxillary, like my relative, who was regular army, and then joined up for the BEF at the start, mowed down we think by machine gun fire in 1914. The CWG did an outstanding job, as did all the people who took nearly 5 years to get this ceremony arranged. Many unpaid and gave hundreds of hours to get this event staged. 100 years 'missing', and the army still took the time and trouble to arrange this, and although there are still thousands missing, I spoke to the current serving military there, who regard the fact that the army will look after them, regardless of time, a very important consideration for them and there family. Not many things that are still great about Britain for me!..... this was an event that restored some of my faith in a country where values are somewhat taken for granted, or ignored.
