Under 18s Versus Colchester

I went to see the Under 18s yesterday and they won three nil. There were a number of stand out performances but pride of place goes to Ademola Lookman who scored two goals and looked a danger throughout. Brandon Hanlan also bullied the Colchester defenders and chipped in with a goal. There was a strong wind favouring us in the first half and all three goals came in that half.
In the second half Colchester came back into the game more but they didn't give Beeney much to do. Lookman had a chance to score his third but rifled it against the stanchion. Some of the passing football played especially, in the first half, was a joy to watch.

Other players worth a mention were Aaron Barnes and Archie Edwards who not only defended well but found the time and energy to bomb forward.
Both the Central defenders Kenneth Yao and Ezri Konsa were rock solid.
It really is a great time to be a Charlton Supporter with the first team doing well and the Youth showing such good signs.
I will be going to see the U21s tomorrow, where I believe a good quality striker will be on trial with us.

Team for yesterday.
Beeney
Barnes, Yao, Konsa, Edwards
Charles-Cook,Lapslie,Kelly
Carey, Hanlan, Lookman

Subs Thomas,Umerah, Bokclu,Birch, Bone

Must have a strong squad if we can leave Umerah and Thomas on the bench. Does Lookman pass the Charlton height test? What type of player?

He is small left footed and tricky. He certainly likes a shot
  • Is U 21 at Valley or training ground?

Valley, will be getting Forest tickets beforehand to kill two birds with one stone. :-)

Terell Thomas is now in the u21 squad, the Thomas on the bench I assume is Callum Thomas, a goalkeeper.

Thanks for the update. IIRC, George Lapsie signed a contract the same time as KAG. Does he stand out at all as someone with more potential than most?

Yes George, is a good player, he didn't have his best game yesterday but he can get forward and score a goal. He has got a long way to go before he is challenging for a first team spot.

It was the first time I've seen Lookman. He is a good prospect-what age is he? I thought our best player was Edwards, mainly because of his storming second half. Give him a bit of time to fill out, he'll be a Rolls-Royce of a player.

Lookman is a first year scholar so he is 16/17.
