I remember him joining as a makeweight in the deal that took Paul Walsh to Luton.
He came as a proven goalscorer and he certainly had big boots to fill. We had the hump anyway as Walsh was sold on the cheap.
For over half the season he was appalling. We then played Blackburn and his first half performance was worse than awful. Comes out for the second half and cracks home a couple of goals and we win 3-0.
He is now up and running smacking in goals every 2/3 games and formed a tidy partnership with Killer.
We ended staying up on the last day when a few months before, relegation looked inevitable.
What I could never understand was why Lennie sold him in the close season. I cannot remember him giving any real reason. It just did not make sense. I wonder if any lifers could throw any light on the events at that time. I know we were strapped, but not to the extent that you virtually give away a 15-20 goals per season striker.

I remember him scoring an amazing solo effort against the nigels that Easter. A brilliant player on his day, it was sad to see him leave for about £30k to Bristol Rovers. Apparently the club were that desperate for funds.0

It was really odd that he left because he looked really sharp. The goal v Palace was a low shot from about 18 yards and he scored an excellent goal at Fulham from a very tight angle crashed into the roof of the net. As Pettgra said, White just seemed to drift away from the club without any explanation and a few months later we bought Ronnie Moore who was ok but not exactly a massive improvement. White went back to Rovers and banged in goals for them.....he was too good for Division Three.2

He scored the goal that beat a nation of a billion people.0

Never rated him, he had big boots to fill and was a massive disappointment for me.0

We beat China 1-0 at the Valley, White scored. The programme contained obscure 'adverts' and messages, some in Chinese characters I believe, maybe someone can enlighten us.0

I can't recall the game, but have dug out the programme: 18 August 1982. Chairman's address from Mark Hulyer (remember him?), club news from the legendary Peter Burrowes, and several display ads in English and Mandarin including Percy Dalton - "The specialists in Chinese nuts and fruits".seth plum said:We beat China 1-0 at the Valley, White scored.
