Joe Gomez

Boy oozes quality. Love watching him play. Comfortable on the ball, happy to have the ball, never fazed, never misplaces a pass. Absolute quality, and only 17.

I think he's been played right this season, a few games in, a rest, a couple more games, a couple from the bench etc BUT next season he must be a regular even if it's at the expense of Solly.

Good on you Joe, you make days like today a little more bearable.

  • He'll be our leading centre back soon, if he stays long enough.

at the u17 euros he looked the most composed centre back i've ever seen, nobody ruffled his feathers for the entire tournament and looked ridiculously confident.
  • Solly is our best player by a country mile. What a shame they are both in the same position at the moment. The way Gomez is coming along though I reckon he could be CB next season next to Solly.

Defence of Solly, Gomez, TBH, THD.
  • Pure class
  • Pure class. How long is he contracted...?
  • He's fantastic. Let's put Solly in midfield alongside Buyens and put Gomez at the back.
  • It's his confidence to run and attack the opposition which impresses me, he has no fear and is looking a fantastic player.

The fact he is a centre back who is technically sound and fast means he will go far.

Keep up the good work Joe.
  • If Joe did play centre half , who do you think his game would be better suited to play alongside, Bikey or Ben Haim, I'd go for Ben Haim, as I think (hope) his experience would rub off and help Joe develop, plus he'd have the pace to get out of trouble, what do you think?

    Agreed

We have a decent defence alright. TBH was only a one year deal so will he stay? Wiggins and Henderson need to have injury free seasons for us to thrive.
There is a risk that a big bid comes in for Gomez simply because he is so good.

For Gomez to be sold in this window, it would have to be one hell of a huge offer.

The club is no longer desperate for the money to survive.

Surely RD would be looking to maximise his investment in a year or so, rather than grab a much smaller sum for an inexperienced youngster right now?

Solly was 10000000% more effective than buyens/Jackson are in cm

Don't say that too loud cause it was a mental decision apparently

Sure - I was replying with regards to back four for 2015-16. For me, the player ins and outs over the summer will say an awful lot about M.Duchatelet intentions.

I'd prefer we pick up £2m from being in a play-off final rather than £2m for selling our best youth prospects.
  • Gomez is a great prospect. But Chris Solly remains one of the best right backs in the Championship and it would be madness not to play him in his best position. He did well in midfield today but looked shaky when played there before. Bring Joe through at centre back next season, that's his best position rather than right back.
  • Gomez is not quite 17 years and 8 months. Worth remembering what it is like to be that age.
To my mind, there was a risk of damage when messing him around positionally, but in Joe's case I think Bob and his staff are managing the situation pretty well, as is also the case with Aherne Grant. if the players are brought along well then things ought to work out, in my view Joe Gomez has the potential to go all the way to senior international level.
  • Gomes alongside TBH at CB would allow the defence to play 10-20 yards further up the pitch, helping our attacking play no end. Also both capable of bringing ball out and marauding forwards.

I will let you off spelling joe name wrong as that makes so much sense.
with Gomez and TBH we would not have to play so deep.
Bikey has just gone off the boil in recent weeks.
    This could work at home.
    plus 3-5-2 as plan B

  • He's a rolls Royce engine in a ford escort

And won't be here next season

  • Agreed. Not good to put pressure on a young kid but I see the next Rio Ferdinand in him.
  • Was saying to @rothko yesterday that whereas I look at Cousins and can't work out where he should be playing I look at Gomez and think he could play pretty much anywhere.

Make the most of him as he'll be gone as soon as a decent bid comes in.
  • Could he not play centre back alongside Ben haim? While bikey is off form? In his preferred position?
  • I would play Gomez at right back and Solly as a CDM right now, he is like a championship edition Lahm
  • Christ, there are some exaggerations on this thread.
  • Feature on Joe in the latest issue of The Green Soccer Journal - http://thegreensoccerjournal.com/joe-gomez/

Only a snippet of the interview but pretty cool nonetheless.
  • Good interview, we beat Derby 3-2 though (says 1 nil).
  • Looks good that. I was raving to a friend about Green Soccer Journal. My latest copy arrived and I handed it to him, and the first page he flicked to... was a full-page, full-colour nude photo of the NY Cosmos keeper. Me: 'Wait, wait. You don't understand. It's not always like that...'

It will tell us a lot about Roland when we find the answer.

I think I'd be inclined to do the same. I'd like to see Gomez get a an extended run of games.
