When 10 V 11 Is So Unfair

Never quite understood why a team who has a player injured and off the pitch as a result of a foul by the opposition should suffer a man disadvantage. Surely the perpetrator should be off the pitch until such time as the injured player is ready to return or the sub replaces him?

    agreed
  • Trouble is there is so much faking of injury from players at the moment you could see some Managers (Mourinho) getting his players to do it tactically to get a dangerous player out of the game for however long it takes for the "injured" player to get better

But wouldn't that mean the "dangerous player" would be the perpetrator of the foul - and the penalty might just encourage that player not to commit the foul? And if the ref believes he is feigning injury there is nothing to stop him not enforcing that rule.

Equally, the best teams are all about keeping their shape and losing any player causes a team to re-assess their formation. For that reason, I'm not sure Mourinho would want to lose say Matic even if it is for a Van Persie or Sanchez for example.
