Based on the statement from the club, it seems doubtful they are going to announce a new manager tonight. They are going to be considering their options, with this in mind surely they will at least speak to Curbs!1

The thought of Curbs coming back makes my heart sing, but the likelihood seems very low.
He'd want to be manager and have near autonomy on playing matters, not head coach having to answer to lots of other people in the network.
His last club as manager sold a player he didn't want to and he took the to court for constructive dismissal. If what apparently happened to Powell is true, i.e. being told who to pick and then to be replaced by Riga who was apparently given full control of team selection, and Curbs has heard about it (which he surely has) then there'd be too many parallels with his time at West Ham for comfort, I would think.
Knowing Curbs, he is interested in the job but by "have a chat" he means find out if Roland will let me do it his way, if not it'll be no thanks.
As other's have suggested, maybe the way to go here is promote from within (a team of Matthews/Roberts/Euell) and put Curbs in upstairs as DoF. He might be able to fill that kind of role successfully within the network structure and a senior football man upstairs in a permanent CAFC job could well be good for the club and the young coaching team.9 -

I doubt Curbs will come back even if offered the job. But you never know.
Anyway, he took W Ham to court, because his contract stated that he would have control over team affairs, without interference and this didn't happen.
IF he joined CAFC again, it would presumably be as a coach & he would know from the off, that he wouldn't be deciding on the players coming in/out etc.
IF he agreed to that, then it's slightly different.
The thing is, I doubt it would be offered and I doubt he'd want it.
But what do we actually KNOW.
I've signed the petition. He's been the best CAFC manager in most of our lifetimes and if it get's him an interview, then it's all good.3 -
He must have some interest in the job though. He knew by saying what he did on Sky earlier it would create a headline, why would he bother if he didnt want to throw his hat in the ring?4

all I can say is that they are looking for a head coach, not a manager. which means if curbs took the job he would not have any or little say in the recruitments of the squad. this fact for me makes me pretty certain curbs will not be back.0 -

If Sir Alan came back I would be so stunned but overwhelmed with delight. Even just hearing that he is interested and there is a chance, no matter how miniscule, it could happen has made my day.

I can't see anyone else giving Curbishley a job. If he comes back to us and does well then he could get back into the Premier League. I can see why he would want to talk to us. I can't see why RD would want to talk to him though.

He really didn't sell out The Valley week after week. It was a lot more complicated than that, once we got up to 27,000 anyway. In fact, privately Curbs advocated much higher ticket prices (which would have meant many more empty seats). Neither did he want to sell Scott Parker (quite rightly).seriously_red said:

On the main topic, however, I'd love AC to come back, because of the likely alternatives as much as anything, because it would galvanise the whole club at least in the short term and because it would only happen if he was able to make the football decisions in a traditional way. But of course that's why it's so unlikely, plus there's no likelihood of RD paying his salary.
Generally speaking, going back is a bad idea IMO. But it looks a whole lot better than other ways of going forward right now.7 -
Sorry to digress from the love in - I am as grateful to Curbs as the next guy but he really isn't the answer. He's not interested, he's desperate. He wants back in but he is regarded within the industry as yesterday's man. And I think he would come with too much baggage. Don't get me wrong, I despair at the thought of Luzon or some other network lacky, but Curbs has been here, done it and left us with a lot of happy memories. I'd like to leave it like that. Won't make me Mr Popular I know, but I just think we need to move on, whatever that means.5

Actually it just wasn't sold out a lot of the time, other than the obvious games. At some points in the early 2000s there were thousands of comps being issued via the community scheme. I think we need a period of normality, stability, and methodical planning and implementation. Curbs would bring us that, but I don't think it would be particularly exciting, whereas Riga would be.
Curbs is a more conservative, steady as you go, kind of manager. I honestly don't think RD would be as patient as Murray/Varney were.1 -
