Can anyone recommend a good & cheap stockbroker for share certificate holders

I was considering selling some shares, for which I hold a share certificate.
The 2 brokers I usually use, seem to be no good for me now.

Shareview Dealing/Equiniti appear now to only deal in shares that they are the Registrar.
LloydTSB Share Dealing, no longer exist.

Obviously, I googled, but after an hour, I've given up. I can't find an execution only service for certificated shares, with a low cost.

There must be one, any ideas ? Obviously you must have used them recently or I'll likely have the same issue, that the T&C's have changed.

I've looked at them. But only cheap if online deals and they don't do online deals for share certificates, only telephone.

I'm quite sure that can be done. But I was just looking to sell, without the hassell of having to do that.

Might be the cheapest way. On the MoneySavingExpert site there is an old article which mentions Abbey. So that is Santander now and looks like it will be £60+ rather than the £10-15 for shares in a nominee account. http://www.santandersharedealing.co.uk/content/Libraries/Scale_of_charges/Scale_of_Charges.sflb.ashx


There is a very long forum thread as well and a quick look has people mentioning Skipton / Yorkshire and also XO. I have no experience with any of those companies though.

I use Halifax but that's for deals I've already placed with them, although look out for their special where all trades are £2.50 might apply to telephone as well

I must confess CE I stumbled across them through researching Employee Benefit providers (it's part of my job to pitch these type of companies for an event I work on). I don't actually know much about shares or share dealing on a personal level, just saw the price and thought it was cheap compared to the others, might be worth letting you know.

Thanks PL54, I used Halifax in the end. I lodged the shares into their nominess, then sold them for £12.50 online,

instead of about £100 if I'd sold the certificated shares by phone.

So it would have cost me a little bit more and as I hadn't heard of them prior to your advice, I decided to go with Halifax. At least you can walk into a branch if you want to speak to someone face to face.
