Was there a good 1974 album?

... that I should invest some time in listening to?

It is the most recent year for which I don't have an album in my collection - and I don't think I fancy Autobahn.
NME's album of the year was Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan ... Heart of Saturday Night by Tom Waits might be another contender.

Recommendations gratefully received :-)

  • Pete Hammill - The Silent Corner And The Empty Stage is fairly astonishing if you're into avant-garde or prog
  • Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons.
    Radio City - Big Star
    No Other - Gene Clark

    Three stone cold classics.
  • I'm pretty certain A Night at the Opera or A Day at the Races by Queen were in 1974, both very good albums if you like Glam Rock.
  • 461 Ocean Boulevard - EC
    Blinding album
  • Kraftwerk - Autobahn (what do you mean you don't fancy it, the title track is 22 mins long!)
David Shire - Soundtrack to The Taking of Pelham
    Tangerine Dream - Phaedra

Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark
Stevie Wonder - Fulfillingess First Finale
Little Feat - Feats Don't Fail Me Now

  • Yes - Relayer
