originally from the north land of soft water. After 14 years in London still not used to the hard water and on recent visit to Wales the tea tasted lovely. Has anyone fitted a water softener? Is it very expensive, would you recommend?
I know first world problem!!

The water softener should not affect the mains drinking water if I remember correctly. Have you used a water filter as this is more likely to improve your drinking water?

Was one in the house when we moved in. I think Kinetico is the make. Most of the water in the house goes through it. Would totally recommend, although don't think they are cheap. No scale in kettle and very little in dishwasher which is over 10 years old.

Can't stand the taste of soft water! My other halfs parents just got a softner installed and I really struggle to drink it! This is from a guy who loves to drink water! I drink huge amounts of it every day!
