to mark the 40th anniversary of his Wimbledon win.
Did anyone else watch this? I found it fascinating. He always seemed to have an aura as a player I remember but he really was quite a man on and off the tennis court.
One of my all time favourite sporting memories was that Wimbledon win over Connors. Can't begin to describe how invincible Connors appeared at that moment. That final was fascinating, enthralling and so exciting. And supporting the ever dignified and likeable Ashe against the uncouth, brash Connors made it all the more enjoyable. When he turned and gave that simple clench fist salute at the moment of victory, I have to say I almost wept. That, and Ali's victory over Foreman in Zaire the previous year proved to the younger me that nothing is ever certain in sport. God bless Arthur Ashe
Enjoyed the documentary and as Six says seeing Connors a beaten man was most enjoyable. McEnroe's respect for the man when he was Davis Cup Captain was also enlightening.
