Buy Cheap, Sell Big

Not necessary the best player in a Charlton shirt, but the players that we bought for a fee or on a free transfer that we ended up making a tidy profit on. Cannot include players who have come through the youth team. Lee, Bowyer, Minto, Shelvey etc are not allowed.

Darren Bent: 5.175m June 2005 from Ipswich Town. Sold to Tottenham Hotspur June 2007 for 16.5m. 39 goals in 79 games. 2 England caps. One of the best strikers seen at the football club and should have been picked for the 2006 World Cup.

Mark Kinsella: 150,000 from Colchester United. September 1996. Sold to Aston Villa for 1m in August 2002. 226 games, 23 goals. 33 Republic of Ireland caps. A Charlton great, a leader who lead by example.

Derek Hales: 4,000 from Luton Town. July 1973. Sold to Derby County for 333,333 in December 1976. Resigned from West Ham July 1978 for 75,500 (a club record). Charlton's highest league and cup scorer with 168 goals in 368 games.

Mike Flanagan: Free Transfer from Tottenham Hotspur. July 1971. Sold to Crystal Palace for 650,000, August 1979. Resigned from QPR for 50,000 in January 1984. 120 goals in 396 games.

There are many more I can think of, but over to you.

We didn't resign him on a free did we? Thought we just had him back for a brief loan?
