Best part of all that is Cousins is the only first teamer with one year left. Good situation to be in, especially if he signs a new deal too

I still don't understand the centre back situation. I know the old adage that you don't have to sign players in a certain order and to a greater extent I agree. However I think that, in that particular position, communication and understanding are incredibly important and having your centre backs sorted well before the start of the season so they can build that rapport with one another (and the goalkeeper) is a good idea. Therefore it's incredibly strange that, given we were the first team to know which division we'd be in this season and therefore had about three months to prepare, we now sit here with two weeks to go and one (realistic) centre back. Very odd.

Was getting confused with all the rumours of incomings, and with the Bite size thread missing in action, I have gone through a few threads and have compiled a list of those we have been lined with/have had on trial! My info is all third hand/from Wikipedia so feel free to correct anything...

Wylan Cyprien - 20yr old Attacking mid (can also play on the wing) from lens. Reported that he is going straight out on loan to STVV.

Clement Lenglet - 20 yr old CB from AS Nancy ( can cover RB)

Chris Herd - 26yr old CB ( can also play as a defensive midfielder) unattached. Was at Villa last year. Reported he was on trial but not sure if he has featured in any games..

Stephen Kelly - 31 yr old championship experienced RB ROI international. A free agent after refusing a contract with reading. Again reported he has been on trial here but not sure if he has featured in any games.

Michael Siegfried - a 27 year old Swiss CB

Jake Sinclair - 20 yr old striker/winger released by Southampton. Younger brother of Scott. Has played and impressed in friendlies..

Joe Aribo - 18 yr old Attacking midfielder from staines town. Has impressed on trial Euell hinted in an interview that he could go into the first team squad!

Josh Staunton - 20 yr old RB/CB released by Gillingham

Peter/Peta?? A defender, not sure who or from where.

Griffiths also a defender. As above not a clue...

Marcel Barrington -19yr old striker from Guyana. Has spent time in Stoke and Leicesters academies.

I expect Wiggins and others depart ...And I expect that Meire & Luzon are not talking bollocks when they allude to an upgrade / pushing on / signing up to five.
Nope, continuous improvement and a further influx of 18-22 year old European talent which in turn guarantees that our club's transfer revenue for last season @£5m is a permanent uplift.
Last summer Liege sold five players for €25m. That's where we are heading over time which means top talent acquired and retained/devrloped...and then sold!
Some don't like this model. That's their problem

Three of the trialists, Dexter Peter, a centre back formerly with Norwich, 19-year-old left-back, Priestly Griffiths, previously with Middlesbrough and Slough's attacking midfielder, Joe Aribo, started.

The other three, former Southampton winger, Jake Sinclair,
ex-Leicester midfielder, Marcel Barrington, and one junior Brentford striker, Martin Netzer, all featured from the bench.

2 decent centre backs are needed within the week, or we will struggle .

My unease is now turning to relative optimism/curiosity. Signing all these players I've never heard of feels better than a load of journeymen out for a last pay day. The outstanding questions are: 1. are they any good or turkeys? 2. If they are any good will they be flogged off for a pronto profit? I'm feeling better about it all than I was a fortnight ago though. Just need the season ticket to arrive now..........

If you take out those players said to be surplus to requirements such as Bikey, Reza, Harriot etc then we still have less than 20 outfield players not counting the kids.

Still need a few more and especially at the back but fairly sure Luzon and Fraeye have noticed this too.

I think it is likely that Ceballos was bought to play wide not central.

RB: Solly

CM: Cousins, Ba, Jackson, Kashi, Ceballos
LM: Charles-Cook, Moussa

FW: Watt, Makienok, Vetokele, Ahearne-Grant

plus Bikey, Wiggins, Harriott


In goal we seem about as covered as we're going to get. Hopefully Henderson is back ASAP.

One centre back is needed urgently.
RB/CB cover is also needed but is perhaps less urgent.
Left back is sorted.

Right mid is looking light.
Centre mid we're covered defensively. Ceballos and Moussa are two good options creatively.
Left mid is also looking light although RCC's emergence is a big plus.

Four decent strikers to start the season. More is always nice though if you're reading Roland... :-)

Can see Bergdich playing left midfield and Ceballos also used out wide.

Luzon said today he wants 2 or 3 players, I would guess that's a couple of centre backs and a winger given we've been linked with Henry and Luzon seems to rate KAG high enough to be our 4th striker.
