Ranking all 54 stadiums in Premier League history

The Telegraph has ranked all of the stadiums to have appeared in the Premier League. They claim that their criteria are "size, atmosphere, facilities, setting, aesthetics... and the pies".

Selhurst is ranked 46 out of 54! As for The Valley... we're at number 30. Obviously I'm biased but I think that's a bit harsh. They say:

"Unrecognisable from the derelict Valley of the early 1990s, Charlton's home has been dragged, kicking and screaming, into something approaching the 21st century. The club could yet expand the capacity to beyond 40,000."

They included disused open air toilet blocks, lucky break for the Palarse!

Is a joke that Shithurst is better than Bournemouth, only thing wrong with the latter is its small but at least they give you the leg room to sit down

I can understand sellout being that high - clearly The Telegraph must have rated synergy of ground, club and fans as a positive criteria - and on that I believe Palarse are top scorers.

Utter shite ground, utter shite club, and utter shite fans - perfectly matched.

What a ridiculous list. Highfield Road and Loftus Road better than The Valley? Nonsence

    Craven Cottage at No 9 - you're having a laugh . . .

Aw, as one of the few I've been to I've gotta say Craven Cottage is a pretty darling of a stadium. Shame its inhabitants create the most negligible atmosphere in football history

To be honest I prefer the likes of Selhurst and Loftus to all the soul-less out of town identikit bowls.

Selhurst would be lucky to be ranked 46th in the football league.

I'd have the Dell as the worst ground ever

But I'd have Selhurst park much high, just because of there fans being amazing and the best in the world, that sister act song is brilliant and what other ground would need escorting own fans for there safety....sorry our safety

Rightly so, never premier league. However, they might do well as the'big' league one stadium.

Loftus Road is barely capable of hosting Championship football let alone Premiership.

I do understand why Craven Cottage is high up it is the last victorian stadium left. Loftus Road though is a dump as is Hillsborough.

It's really hard to judge stadia, the boring bowls have much better facilities, but less character than the likes of Goodison park, so how do you rank them?
Also, the away experience may be very different from the home experience. The Jimmy Seed, for example is the worst stand at The Valley, while Palace uniquely have 2 tired side stands, but a very decent home end.

30 is probably fair. Think most away fans see our ground as decent but also pretty middle of the road, just a typical modern Championship stadium really. Not the sort of ground people are going to get excited about going to, but nobody would dread the experience either

Hillsborough could do with a lick of paint and upgrade but it's a great old stadium.

Palace must be that high cos they have more than two songs and can actually be heard as fans at home games even if it is chuff songs
  • That article doesn't know what it wants. Talks about 'identikit' and 'soulless' stadiums, but still ranks them higher than characterful counterparts.

Craven Cottage, cramped, temporary looking away stand, seats crammed into odd places, pillars everywhere and full of tourists and people not actually bothered about football!

We should be behind Stamford, Goodison, OT, Emirates, Anfield, Upton Park, WHL, St James, St Mary's, SOL, Villa, Emptihad, on a par with stoke, liberty, hillsborough, Elland, Hawthorns, Carrow, Molineaux, KC, St Andrews, King Power, pride, ahead of Loftus, Macron, Riverside, Ewood, Vicarage, Sellout, Craven, Bloomfield, Bournemouth, Ipswich, Pompey, Cardiff, turf moor, Wigan and almost all of the old ones like dell, Maine road etc

I preferred the old Valley despite the ghastly lavs and discomfort. We now have a generic stadium hosting generic fans singing generic songs: all three of them.
I don't believe in the soul as such, but I find the whole Charlton experience increasingly soulless.
Meh, I'm old and things were better when I was young.

I'd put the Emirates ahead of Old Trafford as number 1. I thoroughly agree with all the above comments about Loftus Road - the stands are on top of the play but it's far too cramped and the lack of legroom is pretty atrocious. The ranking is all pretty subjective but I've always liked Goodison Park and Hillsborough.

The Stevenage Road stand and the Cottage itself, fair enough, even though the facilities are atrocious. The two ends are temporary seating and the stand on the river side is hardly adequate.

I wonder if they will ever replace those 2 'temporary' stands.

Despite it being run down i actually like Hillsborough a lot. Rarely does a ground exude atmosphere like that place and i think that's purely down to the old school architecture.
  • Yeah i like Hillsborough too, just the people in the stadium that spoil it. ;-)

Hillsborough's decent but the Emirates is the number one stadium in England by a country mile.

Hills borough is in need of a total refurb, as for QPR apart from the piss hole down the road it is 1 of the the worse tool boxes around .

It reminds me of the stadiums that u got with subbuteo

Always likes St. James's Park. could they extend that upper tier right round ?

Loads of leg room up in the gods of the away fans.
