No game today: season ticket has still not arrived

Did anyone else not get to see the game today because their season ticket has still not arrived? I emailed the club during the week and was told to turn up early today, and that they might have my season ticket "reprinted" for collection at the North Stand ticket office.

I had other commitments and couldn't get there early to beg for admission, so I never got in.

I don't think they've sent it out. I must have purchased well over a hundred tickets from the ticket office in the last few years, and the tickets never once failed to arrive.

I could always pretend I'm new, because the people buying their first season tickets are clearly getting preference over the scum - like me - who've supported the club for years.

Really disappointed.

    Spoilt brat?!

The man has spent hundreds of pounds and not received what he has paid for.

So they were dealing with everyone in a few seconds, Timken? I wish I'd known. Since I couldn't get there until 2.45, I figured I'd spend most of the first half queuing. And if resilience means happily standing in a queue while the football game is played then I'm certainly not resilient. I also think it's highly unlikely my ticket would have been available, since they weren't answering emails and the ticket office phone line also said the ticket office was closed, so I couldn't check if they'd reprint it. If wanting to see both halves of the game makes me a spoilt brat, then that's what I am. I just figured that since I paid for it 3 1/2 months ago they'd manage to get it to me before the season started.

I don't quite understand this thread. Is he saying he got to the game on time but didn't bother getting a ticket ?? or didnt bother turning up at all ?? I'm sure if you turned up , even at 3pm, you would have been given a ticket by 3.15/3.20.

So rather than miss part of the first half you would rather watch none of it? mind you if you are flying in from New Zealand its unreasonable for them to expect you to get there before 2.45.
  • Slightly odd thread when there is already one about season tickets here but tbf, this is a balls up by the club, not by a fan who paid for his ticket some months ago and could rightly have expected to have received it some time before 2.45 the day if the game by standing in a queue.

Weird. If you had turned up at 2.45 they would have reprinted your ticket and you'd have probably been in the ground for kick off. That you couldn't be bothered is your fault. Sounds like a whinge for the sake of whinging.

We know there was a cock up by the club, this has been covered by other posts, and we know its not good enough, however, what else could the club do to resolve the situation. I dont think in the circumstances they had an alternative but ask the person to turn up a little earlier, other than ask him to pay at the ground and sort out a refund after the game.

No, they didn't. I queued from 2:35pm for half hour until someone came out to offer the remaining queue tickets for the East Stand so we could collect them another day. I took one because my seat is there anyway and, I was reliably informed, I'd be waiting at least 15 minutes if I didn't. Trust me 2.35 was the earliest I could get there, and there were more people still behind me than in front when I left the queue.

There was no common sense on show. No one going up the line so the tickets would be picked ready. No tickets/vouchers ready for each stand so the holder's seat could be used - its East Stand or miss a big part of the match was the only choice offered, and that only after the game had kicked off. No offer to post on the ticket, no we have to go pick it up. No option to collect after the game.

Frankly it was a mess, the whole thing's been a mess, and no word of apology from the club at any point. It's been the supporters who've had to inconvenience themselves to resolve it for the club, and that's nowhere near good enough when they took fans' money months ago.

I mean, it's not as if they couldn't have had these printed ages ago - there was I expecting an RFID card but it's just a bit of plastic with a barcode on, for crying out loud. Spin up Excel if you have to, but take ownership of the problem and make sure your loyal season ticket holders don't have to do it for you.

Sorry to hear that rikofold , that is a farking disgrace and a proper shit show from those in charge who didn't have the foresight to put a proper plan in place when they knew what was coming .... 10-15 mins before kick off when the queues weren't gonna be disappearing in time for the game is the time to be doing that

The silence from above is deafening

  • Obviously the club went to some lengths to get everyone into the ground, but that's not how they presented it to me. When I emailed them on Monday I got a reply saying it had been sent out, and that they might reprint it so I could collect it on Saturday. I replied asking what the arrangement was, and never received a reply. So I didn't know whether there would be a ticket for me if I turned up. I was reluctant to take a day off work to get the ticket before the game. I've seen the queues at the North Stand ticket office, and they can be long. I couldn't get there before 2.45, so I didn't know whether I'd actually get the ticket much before half-time, even if it had been re-printed. And that makes me a wimp and a spoiled brat? I guess I am a wimp when it comes to queuing. I hate it, and if I've paid hundreds of pounds for a ticket months earlier I don't expect to be told I may have to queue at the venue on the day, and I may miss half of the event. Oh, and there may not be a ticket for me anyway, and someone else might have got their hands on it, in which case I'm really out of luck.

It takes about four minutes to print the season ticket from getting to the window. The commercial centre stayed open until 8pm on Friday and a lot people did get their ticket on Saturday.

Look, sometimes people understand things better when it starts costing them money. So use the consumer protection legislation (assuming you paid by either credit card or via the finance arrangement) to claim back a pro rata portion of the cost of the season ticket.
The finance company are jointly and severally liable and they will charge back to the club - then they'll get the message. Simples.

I arrived ten minutes late due to work commitments and walked from the station down Floyd Road into the West Stand. It looked empty around there and had no issues getting in. However as soon I sat down my brother said "Is it still carnage out there by the Covered End?". I explained I never got that far.

I thought certain parts of the East Stand were more full than per usual. Makes sense now.

Stop hiding behind the Royal Mail excuse Charlton and let's have a full and honest apology to the fans (not customers)who have been affected over the last week.

Kiwi, I posted a message on the other ST thread at about 12.15 saying i'd picked up my ticket with no queue whatsoever. I know the near to kick-off it could have been very different, but there were at least suggestions that the process was working.

That's not to disguise the fact that the club have handled this very badly indeed...

What a load of bollocks. I queued for 50 minutes at north stand ticket office to get 3 tickets and in that time got chatting to some poor old boy that had been sent of a wild goose chase trying to get his season ticket. He's been a season ticket holder for 18 years and had never seen such a shambles. He was told to go to east stand and after queueing there was told to then join the queue at the north stand. He'd paid for his when they first came up for renewal so can't understand how they've messed up so badly and neither can I. We finally got our tickets and missed 5 minutes of the game but there was still tons of people behind us with 1 person serving, bloody joke.

Your comment makes you seem like a complete bell which you probably are.

I have sympathy for you @KiwiG

My dad & I renewed our tickets and paid for them back in March. We are both one of the many still not to have recieved them, so I called the club in the week as requested, and were told that the tickets would be reprinted and could be collected at the North Stand ticket office. I got to the ground at 2.20 (would have been nearer 2 but for a long queue of traffic approaching the Blackwall Tunnel), and joined the hundreds of others in queuing for our season ticket reprints. After about 40mins of queuing, only half a dozen people had been served, with the queue still getting longer, and I could hear the game kicking off with 10 people still in front of me in the queue. There was only one steward present, who kept telling us that she didn't know why it was taking so long, and that there was nothing she could do.

Eventually, an older gentleman in a suit & club tie, came to those of us in the queue and said he had some tickets he could give us to get in, however only for the East stand. Despite our STs being in the lower West, we reluctantly agreed as didn't want to miss anymore of the game! So we eventually got in, our given seats were right at the end of the East stand near the away end (i.e. cheaper seats than the ones we've actually paid for). We missed the first 15min of the game (and there were a hundred or so people still waiting who didn't want to sit in the East!).

So despite paying for my renewal in March, ringing the club on Thurs to organise my reprint, and getting to the ground early, I still missed the first 15 mins of the new season and had to sit on the complete opposite side of the ground. Not good enough.

Let's be honest - if it were any other business you'd hand the ticket back in, get a refund and never patronise them again. I was questioning whether to renew this year, this shambles is hardly going to encourage a positive decision next.

But then we're just the fans and we've got to understand the club will do things their own way, like it or lump it...

Well I got there around 1.45 yesterday and queued patiently at the north stand ticket office as requested . When I got to the front of the queue they told me "oh you're in the wrong queue , you need to queue again at the other booths" . It was at this point where I admittedly exploded and told them in no uncertain terms I would not be doing this and they had better well go and get mine from all of 6 feet away next door.

It took the intervention of two security officials for this to be done. I then stood at the top of the queue and shouted to everyone else that if they were picking up season tickets they were in the wrong queue and that no one at the club had the care or intelligence to inform them.

There were no signs whatsoever to advise of this .

That added to the bullshit they put out the other week of the lad getting his season ticket from Jacko and Henderson when in reality the lad (Lee) had still not received his by yesterday morning!

Quite. I was sent to the wrong queue by a steward, fortunately I had the presence of mind to check with another steward.

    It really is a shambles.
