Preston v Middlesbrough

We are not playing these two until October. However it's worth noting that there is no change to either teams style and system from last season. Preston are 5-3-2 to 3-5-2. Boro 4-2-3-1. Stewart Downing should be too good for this league, playing in the middle of the three behind the CF.

  • What channel is this on?
  • I think we saw better football at the Valley yesterday, not sure Boro have really got going yet though.
  • Dull game.

Preston block up the space along the width of the 18 yard box, with three central midfielders in front of three centre backs. Boro have only opened them up once, when Leadbitter missed a clear shot on goal from the edge of the box. Looks obvious that you need to get around the outside. Simon Grayson has gone into this looking for a clean sheet as his first priority.

Can't really blame Preston for doing that. Would expect more from the league favourites, they look beatable.

'Boro have lost their 2 main strikers from last season .. Vossen and Bamford will not be easy to quickly replace

And Tomlin as the attacking midfielder has also gone, although Downing should be picking up his role. He flitted around without imposing himself in this game and was suffocated for space. I expect Karanka will be getting some loan signings from his mate Jose sooner rather than later.

After seeing us yesterday and watching these two teams, there's nothing to concern us here with Preston or Boro. Derby away on Saturday, will be a good indication of where we are.

forgot about Tomlin .. the old 'so near yet so far' team is gradually breaking up .. that's why we, with a new enthusiastic team and manager with a fresh approach will do well before 'fatigue' and 'cynicism' become issues detrimental to team spirit .. CAFC's new look has shades of the early Powell regime, may we be as successful .. I agree that no team so far looks especially outstanding in our division, we will find out a lot more from the Derby and Forest games
  • Dull, dull, dull.

Boro have lost Bamford, Tomlin & Vossen. I don't think they will be as strong.

This division looks quite even to me.
