A theory on player debuts

Seeing as we are likely to have a few debutants at the start of next season, come what may, I thought I'd share my theory:
A sparkling debut = all down hill from there (recently M. Bent, Song, Thatcher)
A slow start = gradually gets better and better with potential to become a star (Scott Parker and many others over the years)
It's by no means always true - Baby Bent being a clear exception to the first and Pouso (who?) a glaring exception to the latter.
Any further thoughts?
