  • Cracking series. I know his accent was guff, but Peter Kay is one brilliant comic actor
  • Shame the success of this series will inflate Baker's head even more

    Tell me about it.
If you follow him on twitter you'll know his trumpet is all but blown out!

  • Does anyone know if there is a list of the soundtrack music used in the series? I can't find one. There was a short instrumental passage in episode 7 of a familiar song, I think it was the Sensational Alex Harvey Band but I am not at all sure and it is killing me.
  • Cannot believe that Danny Baker (at 17) looked like David Essex!
Was that all in his imagination?

    More like Braintree in Essex!

I've enjoyed watching the series with the subtitles on to get all the music listings.

I thought that, and that the teacher may well not have been anywhere near as interested in him as he thought.

Made good TV though. Saw the last one last night - not particularly funny but just nice, like a TV show that can do both.

  • Looks like a young Danny Baker.
  • I found it slightly less funny but just as entertaining as the series went on. I had just read the book prior to the series so knew several of the anecdotes but there was plenty in the series not in the book so I think the writers (including Danny Baker) had a fair amount of poetic licence. I could relate to the series as well as I am a one month older than Danny Baker.

    Looking forward to series 2.

@24 Red if you go to the bbc site and the episode 7 page, all the music is listed with links.
  • So... how can i watch all?

    BBC iplayer, mate.
  • Only just picked up the last two episodes last night, so I'll have to catch the rest on Iplayer.

Thought Peter Kay was his usual excellent self, and the comedy timing in the two episodes I watched were spot on. No problem with Baker being a Spanner, he does a good radio show and have always found him interesting despite his contempt for us. Not the usual Millwall wooden-top IMO.

  • One of the best programmes on tv in a long time. Can't wait for the second series

'Locomotive Breath' by Jethro Tull. Many thanks IdleHans.
  • Just watched episode 4. Teddy Arseholes - Hilarious.
  • just watched the last 2 episodes on iPlayer .. it seems that the series was a heartfelt tribute to Baker's 'working class' cockney parents .. I enjoyed both the programmes and the sentiment, which, I am sure, was treated with a degree of errrrrr poetic licence

  • Really enjoyed it, easy viewing from start to finish. Loved "I'm not f*cking made of money" after the single firework went off in the final episode.
