Gabriel is an idiot for rising to it, but the initial yellow card he received he didn't actually do anything, and then the subsequent red was for flicking his heel at a player, Costa, who should already be down the tunnel for twice putting his hands on Koscielny's face in the space of about 3 seconds.
Should video analysis a la rugby be brought in for stuff like violent conduct? It can't be that hard to have a video ref who simply tells the referee in his ear "Diego Costa has swung an arm at Koscielny, red card offence" is it? Especially seeing as all premiership games are recorded fully for MOTD, match choice and non UK TV.
The other officials are all miked up. Did none of them see it? Riley didn't see the kick for the red, so was either advised by an assistant or more likely took scumbag Costa's word for it. He had a chance to even things up with the kick on the touchline, should have been watching for any excuse but bottled it. Very poor display by all officials.
Costa charged with violent conduct by the FA. Didnt think they could do anything about it given he was booked in the first incident but pleased to see the FA have looked at it.

Good.
He was booked for the clash with Gabriel, whereas he's been charged for the arms in the face of Koscielny.

That is the player that Mourinho described as 'man of the match' and 'he did everything you want of a player in that match.'
Says a lot about Mourinho.
Costa falls into that category of player that I don't care how talented he is, I wouldn't want him in a team I support.
Thing with Costa is, with the wages he is on, will he really care if he misses max 3 games through suspension?
Yes, it will drive him insane. The reason Costa is such a shit on the pitch is because he's absolutely mad on playing and winning football matches. He will literally do almost anything to get out there and win. I think he'll hate every second of being suspended. Personally I think it's a shame. If he wants to go around winding up multi-millionaires until they lose their rag I think that's hilarious
I would love to see someone go thru Costa! A Gordon McQueen, Norman Hunter type defender. Is there any of those around anymore?
NOT 1 Arsenal Player hit him with a heavy tackle after he wound up Gabriel. Surely 3 of the Arsenal players should have left some on him. No wonder Ian Wright was shouting for Martin Keown to hand out some retribution.
Costa banned for 3 domestic games. Arsenal's appeal for Gabriel's red card successful although does face a charge for improper conduct. Fair to say the FA have actually got one right for a change.

Not sure why Gabriel was successful, he was a pretty good supporting actor in the ridiculous scenario and the ref was well within his rights to show him a straight red for the kick out at Costa.
I really think they should have made an examination le of Costa and given him a big suspension.
Got to agree with Gary Neville on this. When you see what goes on between attackers and defenders in the penalty area at set pieces every weekend and referees don't even blow up for a foul that is a rediculous overreaction by the FA.
If Gabriel kicked Costa, then that's a red or at a minimum a second yellow, so it's a bit strange. Mark Hughes likes to moan, but Afellay's ban was only reduced to 2 games from 3 for a very minor offence
Luckily for Chelsea, one of Costa's games is against Walsall, and another against Newcastle.
