Great Albums of ........1995

Not really my era but I started buying new music again after a long gap. Partly because I bought a walkman and partly because there seemed to be some good, new music around.

What's the Story (Morning Glory) - Oasis

Different Class - Pulp

Leftism - Leftfield

Stanley Road - Paul Weller

What else was out there?

Have never really been an album buyer, but on top of some of those mentioned, i liked Jagged Little Pill.

As an aside, without really being a music person, this was arguably my most favourite year of music. Looking back, i think what i liked was there was such a range of music that nothing really dominated in the popular sense, and as someone who generally likes all styles of music, that suited me perfectly.

Britpop stuff was fantastic and really starting to rise by now (Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Siupergrass, Elastica all had big releases) but so was the dance stuff that's now termed as Old Skool, some great tracks in 95 from Bucketheads, Nightcrawlers, N-Trance, Coolio etc

Mixed in with that your soft rock stuff like Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses, rising up to Green Day,

novelty stuff like Whigfield, Outhere Brothers (WIGGLE WIGGLE!!), Scatman Jon, l

ikeable boyband sh1te (Take That, Boyzone, East 17, Wet Wet Wet etc))

and traditional pop (Madonna, Maria Carey, Whitney, Prince)

and slightly different but popular stuff like Seal (Kiss from a rose), The Rembrandts (Friends themetune), Nick Cave / Kylie (Where the wild roses grow), Simply Red (Fairground), Deep Blue Something (Breakfast at Tiffany's), Edwin Collins (Girl Like You)

Find it very hard to find a song from that year that hit the charts that i don't really like (know its an age thing and everyone has their year when they are at that age, but still think it was a special time).

Sorry, but music died after the 80;s. Started when Srock Aiten & Waterman got involved ( Bros , Kylie etc) and Simon Cowell put the final nail in the coffin with the f*****g X Factor.

Best album under the name IMO, albeit Dave on his own multitasking.

  • 90's was the era for dance music, all the best dance tracks even played now and butchered by Calvin Harris are from the 90's.

Grand Prix by Teenage Fanclub - not quite as good as Songs From Northern Britain (1997)

Ask Me Tomorrow by Mojave 3 (very under rated band)
