Most of us (even me) are too young to have seen him play in the flesh but a Kent fast bowler good enough to have played test cricket for England in an era when England had options.
I saw him play for Kent many times. First as a child at the Rectory Field Blackheath against Surrey and Essex in the fifties. Later they changed the Blackheath fixtures to Surrey and Middlesex Wonderful memories of Fred , Doug Wright, Godfrey Evans, Arthur Phebey; Colin Cowdrey etc. RIP Fred
Saw he play for Kent at Blackheath, think Dave Halfyard was the other Kent fast bowler. Fred used to train local Eltham, North west Kent schools in the nets at Eltham Baths in the late 50's. RIP a great Kent servant.
