  • Gutted for my fantasy football team, low cost and racking up the points quite nicely as well
  • Danny Ings out for the season too.

A massive blow for him just when he'd got into the Liverpool and England teams

Sounds like Jurgen Klopp is gutted too...

Klopp on defender Joe Gomez, who has suffered a serious knee problem playing for England's under-21 side: "You are always nervous waiting for the players after the game. We did not have perfect information for Joe Gomez. What a wonderful young boy, muscles in all the right places. But he has an ACL injury."

Exactly the same injury as Gomez!

Dont want anyone to think that I'd wish any type of injury on a player but this is probably the best thing to happen to Gomez, by having Ings in the treatment room with him for the same injury, they'll help each other get back to fitness, else am sure it gets very lonely when your struggling on your own
  • Terrible terrible news. He's still very young so hopefully it's not totally impossible for him to get back to his best. Aaron Ramsey suffered a double leg break when he was 19 or 20 yet he fully recovered and later became an even better player. Different kind of injury I know, but nevertheless it would always be much worse for a player in his mid-20's to have a severe injury. Hope Joe gets a full recovery as soon as possible.

    Must be their physio's fault

  • Cruciate Ligament injuries seem a lot more common than they used to be, and usually from completely innocuous situations on the pitch (unlike say Gazza's wild tackle).

Is this due to modern studs, or the surfaces they play on nowadays?
  • Gutted for Joe. Hope he comes back stronger from this setback.
  • Lack of ankle and leg support in boots and shinpads must be a part of it. Shinpads used to be full blown supports with ankle guards and all sorts, most of them now have a pair of carbon fibre blades stuffed down the front of their socks and little else. Also stud configurations are a lot more aggressive for traction and speed, but allow less rotational movement of the the foot and leg, which means the swivelling point is no longer the ball joint of the ankle, but the hinge joint of the knee
  • The curse of Klopp.
  • ACL For Joe Gomez and Danny Ings within 3 days !
At least they will have company over the long months ahead.
25 years ago when John Salako did his ACL, he was sent to California for the operation as it was still a career threating injure which few ever recovered from.

Good Luck to Joe, Danny and also Luke Shaw with his double Leg break, that you come back stronger and fully fit.
  • Suffered an achilles injury I see, another extended spell of recovery. Must be devastated.
  • Poor guy, would be getting games imo certainly to stop Moreno playing.

    Hope he comes back stronger!
  • The achilles injury he picked up a month ago, I am guessing he might be back around October time, so hopefully gets given a chance and manages to push on later this season. Klopp has made it clear that he really rates Gomez, so let's hope he recovers soon.
  • That's the problem with the type of injury he suffered, you can repair it focus on it and then you get a secondary injury during the rehab

Very true - hamstring is often a problem as sometimes they'll take a slither of tendon from the hamstring to repair / replace the ACL - causing the hamstring to be weaker as a result.
