Also, I think it goes under rated how unlikable George Russell is. Even after an enormous slice of luck with Kimi finishing pointless and him being handed second by the safety car bollocks at the end, he’s straight on the radio for another whine about how hard done by he is.
I can’t recall ever feeling so negative towards a British driver.3 -
You’d also like to see a bit of discretion in the imposition of penalties - 5 seconds under a safety car finish can drop you about 10 places. Very harsh on Antonelli getting 5 seconds for exceeding track limits when his car was broken0
-
Can't do that because they fuel the cars to do the bare minimum number of laps.Exiled_Addick said:Safety regs need a serious rethink. Safety car laps should count as half laps or race gets extended by a minimum 3 laps after the safety car ends if the it ends within 2 laps of the scheduled race finish or something. They save bunch of fuel so no reason they can’t add a few laps.
Just embarrassing watching them finish a race at a crawl.0 -
If his car was broken, should he have even been out there? - Very weak argument from him reallyWeegie Addick said:You’d also like to see a bit of discretion in the imposition of penalties - 5 seconds under a safety car finish can drop you about 10 places. He also should be driving slower to minimise the chances of going off trackForeverAddickted said:

Kind of damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Take a risk losing a place or don’t and you’re a sitting duck at the restart on older harder tyres. Merc were in a better position to gamble but hard for Ferrari to predict they wouldn’t get some racing laps to use their fresher tyres to attack Russell.lordromford said:Ferrari strategists showing they’re still capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Why would you pit Hamilton there if he’s in danger of losing a place? Just no need.
I guess hindsight is always 20-20.
Maybe they didn’t envisage such a lengthy safety car and also, maybe Russell would’ve pitted if Hamilton didn’t?
Whatever, I imagine Lewis won’t be too happy about it.Ferrari perhaps missed a trick not pitting him during the earlier VSC.1 -
On he other hand - great drive by Charles. He maximised that. Ferrari have another engine upgrade to come..... and they should be monster on tracks like Hungary. They can fight for this title without a doubt.4

Like I say, they save fuel under a safety car anyway, but I guess teams will have to decide if they run a bit more fuel to make sure they have enough to cover a extended race, or run lean and risk running out of fuel if there is a late safety car.superclive98 said:

Just embarrassing watching them finish a race at a crawl. That’s far better for the sporting integrity and image of the sport than finishing the race in a neutralised state.0 -
I like that idea. Or just Red flag it, remove the offending car & restart. Or (and I kniw this is something they wont ever do) just have yellow flags around the stricken.car (which was in gravel, 30 yards off the track and not in danger to other cars) and carry on as normalExiled_Addick said:Safety regs need a serious rethink. I mean they Safety Car it because drivers have died hitting vehicles removing beached cars and you can’t just leave a beached car there. The restart regs might be silly but safety always has to come firstgolfaddick said:

Spa will be very very interesting. Kemmel straight might favour the Mercs straight line speed but I fancy a Lewis win.1

I've watched F1 for about 35 years, and I've never felt so disinterested and disconnected by the sport before. These regs are shit, the abundance of influences and entertainers are shit, the FIA/Race control are shit, and the cars are just shit.
I'm so gutted at just how bad this sport is now.
At least the Lego race was entertaining1 -
Has there been an explanation yet on why we didn’t get the last lap?
What was the point of releasing the lapped cars the lap before if they weren’t going to race?
massive disappointment to the finish, the safety actually got booed!Son said when they boxed Hamilton it was too tight to do it with so few laps left. Poor strategy from Ferrari0 -
Software Error... it never should have said Safety Car Ending, as one more lap should have been completed (this being Lap 52) after the lapped cars were allowed to go through - Ironically SKY have Toto Wolf there with them, and immediately bring up AD2021 when reading that out1
-
Toto did well there to immediately quell any AD talk! Kinda embarrassing it was a software glitch.ForeverAddickted said:Software Error... it never should have said Safety Car Ending, as one more lap should have been completed (this being Lap 52) after the lapped cars were allowed to go through - Ironically SKY have Toto Wolf there with them, and immediately bring up AD2021 when reading that out1 -
NO PENALTY LEWIS.
Thats big for the title.... looking like it could be a 4 horse race between the Ferrari and Merc drivers.... and if they can win at Silverstone, a cooler spa should be even better for them.... Then Hungary. It is gonna be interesting.3 -
If only Ferrari had left him out. Not blaming them thoug, probably the right call at the time0
-
Max seems pretty checked out. Interesting that it wasn't the same failure as Austria but with the same ultimate cause involving the rear wing0
-
Rather than wasting laps waiting for lapped cars to pass the safety car, they should just make them peel off through the pit lane when the safety car pulls off. That would allow the restart to happen at least one lap sooner.3
-
Still a good result for Hamilton in terms of the Championship. He is right in the mix.2

Antonelli should definitely have got the penalty. His car wasn’t safe enough to drive at racing speed yet he continued to stay out.

Don’t even need an extra lap. Put the restart line after the pit lane - when they’re ready to resume normal racing, safety car peels off into the pits, lead car takes over as safety car until the restart line, lapped cars follow the safety car down the pit lane at the speed limit, lead car takes off somewhere after the restart line, by which time everyone is back past the lapped cars.

Worth remembering, Antonelli was looking well set for the win until his issue with the broken wheel cover.DamoNorthStand said:NO PENALTY LEWIS.

Lots of F1 journalists tweeting about some kind of accouncement to come today. All a bit pathetic if you ask me0
-
-
Buxton is the voice of IndyCar isn't he? Probably something about Dixon going to McLaren0
-
Well the Buxton tweet was as Sam said , Scott Dixon and Felix Rosenqvist to McLarens Indycar squad.
Think the other F1 Journos weren't on about that but it's probably some minor story about Horner being in the paddock or something.1
