Hamilton doesn’t like quick team mates , don’t forget
Erm - like Alonso who he beat in his rookie year? Rosberg who he beat 3 out of 4 seasons and drove the guy to retirement? Button who he beat 2 out of 3 seasons?

Anyway it’s different this time. George is at the start of his career and Lewis at the end ….. but LH has thrived on challenges his whole career and isn’t exactly gonna change now.
Yes - he didn’t like any of them
Oh come on. You were clearly trying to suggest he doesn’t like having a fast teammate challenging him, not that he didn’t like them personally.

The constant Hamilton bashing amongst f1 fans is really getting tiresome.
He’s arguably the greatest of all time. The way people diminish his achievements is absurd.
The only thing I can't agree with on that is adding the word 'arguably'.
I’m not looking forward to when somebody inevitably gets the better of him - it happens in every sport and to all the greats. When great new young talent comes up and Father Time catches up with them eventually.

Lewis is coming up to 37. Most drivers will be slowing down by then.

I am sure eventually someone will beat him but when it does I am dreading the influx of ‘obviously was never that good’.

Sorry for expressing an opinion that goes against yours;  I must change my mind.

As one of the commentators said 10 mins ago, this is as big a procession as Monaco only a bit faster and minus the casino. Dull. I lasted 20 mins.

I'm slightly behind on lap 33 and can't see me lasting much longer.
  • Strategy battle has been "interesting" but yeah praying for a SC, although Mazepin has just retired so chances have been reduced
  • Returning to these old European tracks has generally been great and produced good races but this one has been a total dud.

Looks like it would be a fun track to drive but an awful race. Used to like Max and have had a couple of good boozy sessions with Dutch motorsport fans supporting Jan Lammers at Le Mans but after his and RB’s antics this season, don’t think I could watch him win his home GP.

    For that reason…

  • Merc needs to put Hamilton as soon as his tyres started to go off. That 1.5 second gap gave them a small chance of an undercut if Red Bull responded and a slim chance of hunting Verstappen down on fresh tyres. Even if he was closing, no way Hamilton was going to be able to over take on track. Race is over now unless there’s a crash.
  • WTF were Mercedes doing this afternoon

They pit Bottas giving him fresh tyres but dont want him setting the Fastest Lap

He goes and does it anyway, forcing Hamilton to then stop again regardless

Russell will be in the Mercedes before the end of the season at that rate

Hamilton takes fastest lap on fresh tyres at the end… by about a second. Shows the opportunity that was there when he briefly managed to close the gap.

Very odd strategy calls even down to the slow stops. Don't quite know what they were trying. Hoping for a late SC?

Mercedes have been tactically inept all year. Some bizarre decisions have cost them on more than one occasion.
  • What a fucking borefest that was - great track in the 70’s - clearly modern F1 doesn’t work on it - a shame, as I was looking forward to it

Unless Mercedes produce some light years ahead upgrade, this is Max’s title

Monza will be better (I hope)
  • Monza with Sprint Qualifying too , might be slightly more interesting but won't alleviate the qualifying nonsense with tows on the Friday

It is a move like that which will put into context that Bottas is actually a decent driver. But like Perez at RB a good driver can look average when up against one of the all time best.

Yeah it's a good move for Bottas , be interesting to see if he's teamed with Giovinazzi or De Vries
  • Canal+ are reporting that George Russell will be announced by Mercedes tomorrow.

To be honest its a formality regardless now.

The only thing I could remotely imagine Mercedes doing is they'll put Lance Stroll in their other car to avoid any clashes with Hamilton on track, with Russell in @ Aston Martin.

    I'd be very surprised though.

  • Stroll won't do that though as then he's not under the wing of Daddy.

Anyone else find it a bit annoying how many pies Toto has fingers in though?

Obviously he's Mercedes team boss, but he also had shares and influence in both Aston Martin and Williams, and them being customers of the Merc engine doesn't help, and now he seems to be influencing Alfa too with promises of Mercedes engines and placing one of the drivers he manages there, and trying to get De Vries on the grid, and getting Albon to agree to cut ties with Red Bull to join Williams

    No.
  • To be honest I dont blame him for not wanting Albon in a Mercedes powered car if he keeps ties with them... Surely it would be similar to Red Bull being happy with George Russell being put in a AlphaTauri for this season whilst keeping ties with Mercedes
  • The only similar thing I can recall was RB loaning Sainz to Renault , but RB still had Renault power then (might have been branded Tag Heuer at that stage)
  • Great to see... Shame in a way, would have loved it had he taken Williams back to the top
  • Well, I never saw that coming.

  • Lewis couldn’t have asked for a better No 2 than Bottas.
He has performed with great honour and humility and I’m sure will go with the blessing and respect of one and all at Mercedes.
Yes, he’s earned a fortune but its been a tough gig in many ways.
  • Great news for him and also for British motorsport in general. Like him or not, the sucess that Lewis has enjoyed has had a massive impact on the popularity of F1 in this country and hopefully George can continue this when LH retires.
