New managers tactics....?

“We spoke to the Head Coach about how we want to do things and we’ve used these few days to put the last few games behind us. We’ve done that now and he’s come in with a lot of energy and a lot of smiles.

“One of the first things he told us was that if we’re going to turn this around, we need positive, smiling players and if we’re doing that and fighting for each other, then we can achieve it

Smile and everything will turn out ok!! Glad to see he's brought his vast managerial experience with him from the Belgian Conference. His previous side must have been a glum outfit as their results certainly don't reflect a happy, smiling work ethic??

  • Where does it say "smile and everything will turn out OK"?
  • fucking hell, we are in for a long few months in we are gonna pick apart every single sentence the man says.

Be pissed off at RD & KM, mock every single word they say from now on, but KF and the players should just be left to get on with things for the time being.

Agreed - should be targetting RD/KM

I don't get these comments to be honest. He was working with part-time footballers whilst doing other work for RD. It's obvious they were not very good players and what is he supposed to do? You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Let's see how he does with better players shall we? After all he did okay last time round. I'm really surprised that because of previous efforts with us that Karel isn't being cut a bit of slack here.

    Gary's right.

Simon didn't say "Smile and everything will be alright" or even "Smiling is our only tactic".

Seems to be Fry realised that positive happy players are more likely to succeed.

Simon did also say that he and the other players had been told how Fry wants the team to play but he didn't go further.

  • We're going to have actual tactics now? I'm going to have to get myself ready for that sort of behaviour.

(I expect it will be the limited edition Minions variety.)

  • Yes, it's true here are the new mascots. The old ones have been around too long, weren't getting results, and have been sacked.

  • Least we're going for a refreshing look
  • "Always look on the bright side of life" needs an airing at the next home game

    A plan for Karel:

    Get the players fit.
    Get the players fitter.
Get the players fitter than the opposition.

    1) When we get the ball make a quick decision whether to pass, shoot, run, dribble, clear it or whatever, make the decision quickly (....you listening Ba?).
    2) When a team mate has the ball make sure you move into line of sight to give them that option to pass, however far away from them you are.
    3) When the opposition have the ball, get between the ball and the goal, or attempt to, track back, and when close enough tackle, and if not close enough stay with the nearest opponent.

All throw ins take quickly and down the line.

Suss out their danger man in the first 10 minutes and double up on him.
Suss out 'your' man in the first ten minutes and be responsible for him.
Know the area of the pitch you're supposed to be playing in.

    In training practice endless 1/2's.
Routines with players you're most likely to be near during games.
    Endless shooting and heading practice.
    Set pieces.

Everybody keep your mouths shut and don't argue with the ref.

    Hope for the best.

That's excellent but by the time its been through the Google translator from whatever language our interim head coach speaks into English and then again into whatever language the players speak, in their own language it will read:

and a few more translations and you get this (which sounds like exactly the kind of tactics we should be following (particularly the bit about threatening husbands and being responsible sweeting))...

    Players seem.
    Players seem.
    The players themselves create resistance.

    1) If we take a decision quickly to pass, shoot, run, dodge, light or whatever you want to make a decision too quickly (Ba .... ¿Are you listening?).
    2) When a player has the ball be sure to move the crosshairs to give them the opportunity to use, but apart from them, you are.
    3) If the opposition has the ball, catch the ball and the goal, or try to control and, if close enough to attack, and if it is not enough to stay with close rivals.

All add-ons and pull quickly to take the line.

SUSS to threaten her husband in the first 10 minutes and duplication.

  • New managers tactics....? For Middlesborough away........

Bring an abacus and don't unpack your bags.
  • 1) Don't go to away matches looking for a point - we get caught out, go behind and can't readjust our tactic well enough.
    2) Always look to play the ball forward.
    3) Go forward with the ball if the opponent backs-off or space opens up in front of you.
    4) Have shots - however hopeful they may look, they often produce rebounds, deflections and recycled attacks.
    5) Wingers - cross the ball first time, you don't have time to change feet and set-up a better angle.
    6) Midfielders - take on your opponent when you have the ball - this will develop play and produce attacks
    7) Strikers - stay close to our tall guy so he can knock it down or knock it on for you.
    8) All - call for the ball and call instructions/warnings to team-mates - this will keep play organised.
    9) All - don't be afraid to run into the box with the ball instead of passing - this varies the play and keeps defences guessing.
    10) All - get closer to your opponent and tackle, do not allow him the luxury of picking out the best pass.

It's not rocket science, and as spectators we think one/all of these things every week.
We can see it, and I think the players can see it too - but they are not "coached" by people who know the Championship, and are probably told not to play confident football using the basics above.
