To be honest never used the red button anyway... Took about 10-mins to load and you'd miss half of the programme that you'd be trying to watch at the same time
With the internet I'm not sure I've ever used the red button on the BBC. However your comment about Strictly is a little disingenuous. Apart from the huge ratings it achieves in the UK (for god knows why) it (the format of the show) has been exported and makes the BBC an absolute fortune!
You need to avoid comparing revenue streams with costs. It's like suggesting that we are not going to keep Polish Pete on our books but it's ok becasue we are going to keep sign up Jordan Cousins and keep the Academy open.
The BBC might benefit from the licence fee but that £145 a year is insignificant compared to the money Sky make from a full Sports package of £840 a year.
It's no wonder that Sky are taking the rights to all the top sporting events it is?
