To be fair the rot set in years before RD and KM got involved, starting with the appointment of Dowie...
These things tend to be transient. Ipswich were fêted at the same time that we were, excellent Chairman (Sheepshanks) and respected young manager (Burley) but after a UEFA cup run they got relegated and eventually ended up in administration...
What a terrible decision appointing Dowie was, but giving him so much money to spend unchecked was even worse .... true we had been firmly mired in relegation form for half a season before he arrived, but a half-decent new manager would probably have kept us up, and hopefully not have signed Traore and Faye. And the incredible contracts given to the likes of Moutaouakil did for us for several seasons after.

Agree, clubs run in cycles. You can win best run club of the year, then a few years later go into administration. All it takes is a bad season or two, or a change of owner....
Last 5 years must be Swansea or Southampton. Of the big boys it's Arsenal by a long distance
Interesting that the two clubs that are mentioned were allowed to build their Stadia with someone else's money. Southampton knocked the mortgage on St Mary's when they came out of Administration and Swansea had their stadium build by the Tax Payer didn't they?

Didn't Palace knock the banks when they took over Selhurst from its separate administration too?
The real advantage Palace got was their exemption from having a proper stadium.

Its not their stadium. They share it with the Ospreys. And they had already completed their fan-led recovery from closure by the time the possibility of a new stadium appeared.
They should get everyone's vote by a country mile because they show not just that fan ownership is possible in the top flight, but they actually have been more consistently profitable over the last 3 years than virtually any other FAPL club.

You can only judge RD/KM on what's been achieved since they arrived. We've yet to look like threatening Powell's 9th place despite arguably better players, Charlton home support has dropped to below 9000 in the ground, our debt has risen significantly with no prospect of it falling, the relationship between the club and supporters is at its lowest at any point in the last 20 years...
And now we find ourselves glancing towards Selhurst Park with an envious eye. Ironically Palace's success is built on similar principles to those that served out club for so long.

It could be so different.
Not defending RD/KM, but if Jimenez/Slater had still been in charge, things might easily have been worse! We could easily have gone into administration that season, which would have almost certainly meant relegation back to L1. At least we're not having to postpone or abandon home games now due to our pitch. Having a game postponed an hour or so before kickoff due to rain, when Conference teams were able to play that day was truly dreadful.
