Just as I read this an old favourite came on the radio sung by Smokie.
Living next door to Alice:
I don't know why she's lying Or when she's gonna go, I guess she's got her reasons, But I just don't want to know, 'Cos twenty-three years ago We shared a ground with palace, (palace, palace who the f***. Are palace)
As a club we may not achieve much compared to the big clubs, however what we did to prevent us from dying on some waste land, somewhere, should make us all proud. Happy Back to The Valley day.

Thanks for the reminder Henry. A date that strikes at the very heart of every Charlton fan. I was lucky to be at the first home match against Portsmouth and had tears in my eyes just to be back.

Is the first bit about Katrien??
Not at all, I copied and pasted the lyrics and that's how it appeared, M'lud.
I attended the last game at the Valley, followed to Selhurst where my eldest son saw his debut game and Upton Park where my younger son saw his debut game.
I was desperate to be at the first game back at the Valley and this was made possible by simply joining them both into the Junior Reds, and nominating myself as their associate member. It was as cheap as chips and possibly the smartest move I’d ever made! Our Valley tickets were all but guaranteed - especially as the membership levels were so low at the time.
It was truly emotional as all three of us took our place in the Jimmy Seed stand. I couldn’t help but notice that I wasn’t the only one with watery eyes that day - funny really - no pollen around in December!
For the record we three have been ever present / season ticket holders since.
Incidentally, at a later stage my daughter saw her first football game - at the Valley. Must be a rarity eh? Three siblings, one team, debuting at three different home grounds.
I'm definitely losing it, woke up thinking 5th December why does this ring a bell, family birthday? No can't remember, then I go and write Gomez instead of Konsa on the post match thread.............MATRON, bring me more tablets please .
Happy anniversary everybody, no party today but we will make up for it big time when the circus leaves town!
If you read this, Mr Duchatelet, please sell Charlton Athletic as soon as possible. The boycotters may then return to the stadium we helped Charlton Athletic return to twenty four years ago. Your intervention, however well-meant it may have been, has caused many decent people to suffer stress, anxiety and huge frustration. Unshackle our famous football club from your failed experiment. Go and enjoy your wealth, elsewhere. We will rise again without you.
Working in Amsterdam this week and today is Sinterklaas which is the Dutch version of Christmas (or something like that) - so I'll pretend I'm celebrating Sinterklaas this evening with my colleagues but really that mulled wine will be toasting Back to the Valley Day !

Thank you. I wish that I felt able to accept. Sadly, I feel that I cannot, as I view the club as being distant and unrecognisable. It hurts to say this, but there we are. I look forward to better times.

To be fair, the email then said: * Supporters whose birthdays fall in the months of May, June or July can redeem the offer for a match of their choice in August of the new season.

Roland can't take that away from us.
My only desire.
