Just watching Get Carter, for the hundredth time. Great film, very dark and moody.

Did you know that the bloke who shoots Carter at the very end is sitting in his compartment on the train up to Newcastle at the start.

As someone once said, not many people know that!
No, but I did know that on the train, Carter is seen reading Farewell My Lovely.
  • Recently watched his last film, The Great Escaper much of it set in Hastings, where he co stars with Glenda Jackson RIP.
  • 1. Mona Lisa
    2. The Italian Job
    3. Zulu
    4. Alfie
    5. Get Carter

Not saying you shouldn’t like it, but I thought Harry Brown was a nasty film.
  • Most of my favourites have been mentioned but I feel that his last film the Great Escaper is worth a place in a top five.
  • The Prestige
    Inception
    The Italian Job
    Zulu
    Batman Begins

It's not enough to make something disappear.
You 'ave to bring it back!

    1. Jaws: The Revenge
Which did at least give us a classic MC quote (about the film, not in it):

"I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."

  • Zulu, ipcress file, get carter, prestige, the woody Allen one.
  • Get Carter
    Black Windmill
    Zulu
    Eagle has Landed
    The Fourth Protocol

Like it? I can't even remember it. Was he some sort of old man vigilante, or am I getting mixed up with something else? If so, that doesn't sound my cup of tea at all. Not sure why it's on that list, I guess must have recently seen it, but it's nothing to me now. I stick by the other four though.
  • number 1 by a mile is The Man Who Would Be King.  A masterpiece.

Other than that I’d go for:

    educating rita
    quiet american
    zulu
Harry Brown, although it’s a hard watch as he looks and acts so much like my dad it brings a tear to my eye. My dad was also called Maurice, was born the same year and got mistaken for him a couple times in the 60s when suited and booted.  My dad also had no parents and didn’t know his dad. I’ve often wondered if Michael Caine dad had a roving eye.
  • Zulu
    Get Carter
    The Italian Job
    Harry Brown
    Alfie

It certainly showed the seedy side of life, but I did like him in the film!

There is a great scene in Harry Brown when the drug dealer tries to shoot Harry, but the gun jams - Harry shoots drug dealer and says ‘you failed to maintain your weapon, son’

And I forgot Deathtrap in my top 5.  Should have got an award for having to kiss Christopher Reeve !
