White Swan was narrowly beaten in the last round !0 -
Now owned by Marstons.AddicksAddict said:Jints said:Railway Bell is only a mile and a half or so from where I live but I'd never even heard of it until now. Not a massive fan of Youngs pubs but will have to give it a try.
I've given up on Youngs pubs now they've stopped having any interest in the beer, it being produced by a brewery owned entirely by Charles Wells.0 -
The Dog and Bell is in today's round. There are 16 pubs in total.AddicksAddict said:
@Anna_Kissed I heartily agree with you on both points.Anna_Kissed said:A little strange that The Dog & Bell, Watergate Street, Deptford, wasn't in the line-up. Perhaps it was thought superior to all other opposition and thus was not included.
Anyway, of the sixteen in the draw, it's The Blythe Hill Tavern for me.
Re The Dog & Bell, we lived in Greenwich and wanted to get married at St Nick's over the road from the pub so the landlord kindly let us use the Dog as our address. He's still running the place all these years later and to my shame I can't remember his name.

Keep voting for the Long Pond. Neck and neck.

Charlie and his wife Eileen retired last year. He retains ownership of the pub. It is now managed by an another affable Irishman, Seamus. The colour scheme, inside and out, has been changed but, thankfully, the quality (and range) of beer is undiminished.AddicksAddict said:

Beer Rebellion sell decent beer, but it's grotty. Not in a mock grotty way, actually filthy.se9addick said:
I live in Peckham now, Beer Rebellion is good but probably not even in the top 10 pubs in Peckham. Plus every pub in Peckham is a bit poncy now anyway.addickson said:
Beer Rebellion leading (and I've heard it's very good), but I've voted for The Long PondLenGlover said:Beer Rebellion Peckham doing well!
Need some more for the Long Pond

Done but Old Kings Head appears to be on a roll.InspectorSands said:Sudden death play-off - Vote Long Pond!

Also, I’d argue how much of a pub it is. It’s more a bar / achingly hip repurposed retail unit.PopIcon said:

The South London World Cup of Pubs sounds even more inflated as a title than the so called World Series.0
-
Tough on The Pond.
Park Tavern, Eltham up in the next one.0 -
I preferred the Lord Clyde in the Borough.2
-
The Lord Clyde is in the final qualifier, kicking off today at midday.
They're up against the River Ale House, the new micropub in Greenwich, run by Trevor, longstanding CAFC ST holder and thoroughly nice guy.0 -

The Deserter World Cup of Pubs Final will see Deptford's The Dog & Bell take on Catford's The Blythe Hill Tavern. Both are worthy finalists. The match commences at six o'clock this evening.

A humdinger of a contest between two excellent Southeast London pubs. What a match.
