Your favourite... Moments of the RD regime & quotations from our very own Katrien

As we celebrate the most magical celebrations of the year - Christmas and New Year - it's time to look forward to the next one.

On Sunday we celebrate a very special anniversary, a time where we throw out the left over Turkey and instead gorge on the delights of Waffles and Leffe; the time when we celebrate two wonderful years of our Belgian connection.

In preparation for the big day, let's all talk about our favourite moments from the last two years - specifically our favourite quotations and events.

(There is a reason behind this; I'm not just a glutton for punishment - honestly..!)

    I'll kick it off:

-> January 2014, selling Yann Kermogant during the January transfer window and replacing him with Piotr.
-> "I will really try to work with the fans as much as possible. [...] We need the fans. Charlton is no club without the fans - that I am well-aware of." - Katrien Miere, 9 April 2015 (South London Press)

Well my favorite moment from the last 2 years was opening the package full of Charlton memorabilia that GlassHalfFull graciously sent to me and remembering how happy it made me feel. The regime has not filled me with any happy memories, nor do I beleive they have ever created any, so I'll respond with a moment that was "Proper" Charlton in a time where the Belgians haven't a clue what it means to be just that

Bob Peeters doesn't get anywhere near enough recognition for some of the shite his reign served up.
  • I may have a celebratory listen to our leader's anthem, ‘The sound of silence’ ... Hello darkness my old friend ...

“We want to become a competitive Championship club, with Premier League ambitions and we need the supporters on board to be able to achieve that.

“To be a sustainable club, we need to grow attendances, and that is something we can only achieve if we listen and talk to our fans on a continuing basis.

All time classic that one. Listen and talk to fans? The woman can't even respond to emails whilst hiding behind a computer screen.

“The five managers in that time have improved our results every time,” she said. “That has been proved right. Bob Peeters started very well and when results dropped, we acted.

“We hope Karel Fraeye will change things and bring us back to mid-table which we have the squad for. We believe we have a better squad than our position. He has identified problems. We will give him all the help he deserves.

"He has identified problems" - and hasn't don't anything about them, in fact has only made them even worse.

"We will give him all the help he deserves". - then put him out of his misery.

Loads in here from RD on keeping Powell and signings plus a bit from Murray on being cautious when handing out long term contracts. By then we had signed Nego (3.5 years) and Piotr (4.5 years).

In the same article the classic Sir Alex line:

Luzon is Charlton’s fourth manager in a year and Meire now wants stability. “I would like him to be the next Sir Alex Ferguson,” said the Belgian, who says the immediate aim is to make Charlton competitive in the Championship. “I know people are a bit worried about the instability. But our recent actions have shown a sense of decisiveness and I hope that Guy will stay for a long time.”

(Not verbatim) "I've actually been down to Sparrows Lane, and seen what Bob's been doing, and I can tell you he's got them playing some lovely, lovely stuff"

    Murray on Peeters' appointment.

    F***ing clown.

Ah Richard Murray - a true success on managerial appointments. Dowie? Reed? Pardew? Good work Dickie old boy. Take a bow.

  • So many to choose from. My top 5 in date order would be:

    1. Selling Kermogant and bringing in Polish Pete
    2. Thuram- so bad it was almost funny
    3. Letting Morrison go for free when he had years left on his contract
    4. KM personally taking pictures of the first car park demo- provocative and inept
    5. Varney email trail which highlights KM's rudeness and incompetence, and sweeps aside the idea that there's no alternative to RD

The thing about the email chain though... I suspect she knows so little about Charlton prior to rocking up - we don't have a history you see - that she probably PV's initial email was a Nigerian phishing scam
  • My favourite moment is yet to come. When we see the back of this lot. Ever the optimist.
  • I know this is trite in comparison to all the true shit that is going on but for me it just sums up everything quite nicely. It has everything from not getting the customer/fan base to imposing one persons idea of a good time and from alienating to taking the piss. It still makes me laugh when I think of it as it is so utterly and completely inept and inappropriate.

Step forward, and this happened because Katrien liked it, step forward - Playing 'house' music before a game to a bunch of mostly middle aged men sipping over priced pints, not just playing it though but having a DJ play it so loud that all the things good about a pre-match pint (a natter) are drowned out and I imagine any sane person would forego buying a pint etc and get out pretty sharpish.

Feel free to use any of these...

The one I couldn't find was soon after the takeover (by Richard Murray, I think) regarding Duchatelet's financial backing and how it would mean that the club would never *have* to sell an academy product again.

This seems quite at odds with Gomez and what we've heard recently regarding the club providing a testing ground and pathway to the Premier League for talented youngsters...

I daresay we did have 20 applicants in an hour. If I had applied, we would have had 21 applicants.

What lengths we went consider them is a different question.

Watching this short clip made me realise that her stupid grin is a default facial expression. She'd be bad at poker though. I think she does it when she lies.
