Cousins and Vetokele could return for Hull trip

First-Team Physiotherapist Erol Umut provides a full update on the club's injured players ahead of Saturday's fixture against Hull City
George Jones reports

Jordan Cousins could be in contention to feature in Saturday’s Championship clash at Hull City, following a knee injury.

The 21-year-old picked up the problem in the first half of last weekend’s third-round FA Cup tie at Colchester United.

He left the Weston Homes Community Stadium on crutches but, having had a scan on Sunday and subsequent treatment, the midfielder could be in line to make a return.

First-Team Physiotherapist Erol Umut said: “Jordan picked up a knee injury at Colchester last weekend. We did the relevant investigations on the Sunday and his injury wasn’t as bad as we first feared.

“He has responded well to treatment and he is desperate to be involved at the weekend.

“We have to take it day-by-day, so he is touch and go but it’s nothing too serious. The game at Hull on Saturday could come slightly too soon but we will see how he is over the next 24 hours before making a decision.”

The Addicks may also be able to welcome back Igor Vetokele, who was not included in the squad for Tuesday’s game at Huddersfield Town.

Umut said: “Igor played more minutes than we had planned against Colchester and we therefore took the decision to, because of his lengthy rehabilitation period, to not include him on Tuesday.

“He has stepped up his training, has had no reaction and is eligible for selection at Hull on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman, Patrick Bauer, Alou Diarra and Ahmed Kashi remain sidelined.

Lookman is still recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month but has begun running again.

Bauer is due to see a groin specialist in Germany over the weekend and Diarra has a small fracture in his right foot, which he picked up at Bristol City on Boxing Day.

Kashi is four weeks post operation and will see his specialist at the end of the month where he will hopefully be given the green light to step up his rehabilitation.

The sort of innocuous sounding injury that ends up sidelining our better players for months and months...

I think Cedric Evina would be a step up at the moment to be quite honest.

So Bauer did his groin between 19th December and Xmas day, but doesn't see a specialist until this weekend, that's nearly a month! Meanwhile we are left with the inept Roger Johnson.
