All the talk in the past about teams outside top 6 not able to compete financially can now be put to one side.

Newcastle and stoke both proving that.

Newcastles money spent on Townsend and Shelvey plus there bid for Berahino

Stoke signing Shakiri in summer for 12 million and now about to sign a player for 18 million.

  • You what? Compare that to the money the top clubs (and Chelsea) spend. They're worlds apart.

There is a world of difference between the revenue streams of the larger clubs compared to the smaller clubs. Overseas sales of merchandise and subscriptions of the top teams dwarfs that of the smaller, less well known sides.

Money spent on players is no indication of the financial performance of a football club.
  • Newcastle could well be spending more than usual as a gamble on staying up for the TV money.
  • Will this result in better players coming to the premier league with it having more cash or just inflated fees and wages for the same calibre of players?
  • Everyone is gambling on staying up next season and getting the millions for next season like LR says..

We passed on spending 12 million for Townsend though.

Better players undoubtedly. Pretty much every premier league club can now compete to buy a player with all of Europe aside from PSG, Bayern, Dortmund, Juventus and the top 3 in spain.

Plenty of players who might have otherwise considered moving to the bigger clubs in Germany, Italy, France, Portugal etc will now be chasing the money the PL now offers. Yes you could sign for Roma or Leverkusen and play in the champions league, but why not sign for Southampton or Everton and earn 100k a week.
