Why didn't he speak up sooner? Or did I miss something?

To be honest, there isn't too much competition ...Powell, Peeters, Luzon, Fraeye

“He is very, very good,” Cousins said.

“I have had six managers now and I would put him up there at the top.

“Obviously Chris Powell brought me into the first-team but other than that I think I’ve enjoyed working with Jose the most.
  • "Jose Riga is the best manager I have ever worked with, says Charlton star Jordan Cousins"

    But he doesn't say that?
  • Slightly misleading headline, actually says that he is one of the best not the of the six managers he has worked under along with Chris Powell. When the others include Bob Peeters, Guy Luzon and Karel Fraeye (who is the 6th - Parkinson or is he counting Riga twice?) it's clearly not a particularly shocking statement.

None-the-less, Riga was obviously rated by the players last time, and early signs are he is impressing them again which has to be good. Does rather highlight what a screw up it was not keeping him the first time.

Cousins told News Shopper: “He has a great understanding of what it takes to get results in the Championship.

“He sets us up well tactically, everyone knows their jobs and what they have to do.

“As well as defending and keeping it solid we also have an attacking threat up front, it’s about putting a few wins together and right now I think we’re in a good place to do so.

He is very, very good,” Cousins said.

I have had six managers now and I would put him up there AT THE TOP.

Obviously Chris Powell brought me into the first-team but other than that I think I’ve enjoyed working with Jose the most.

He’s got that managerial quality and understands the players. He’s got experience and it’s nice to work under him.”

Former Metz and Standard Liege boss Riga has a strong reputation for getting the best out of faltering players – something which has already been evident since his return – and Cousins insists this is one of his main attributes.

“He’s not just a good coach, he’s also a good man manager so he gets the best out of players,” he added.

He talks to you on a personal level and lets you know what you need to work on as an individual as well as how you can contribute more for the team.”

I have to agree with Jordan. I think Riga is the best manager he's worked with.

    "up there at the top"

As in, one of the best. Not necessarily the best.

The simple fact is he is the only Manager we've had since SCP left. Give him some proper time (more than just twenty or so games) and we might find out if he is a good manager. Generally, his CV doesn't look brilliant, but for us he may just be the right man in the right place at the right time. Here's hoping.

At the top sounds like Number 1 to me! Especially when he says
Obviously Chris Powell brought me into the first-team but other than that I think I’ve enjoyed working with Jose the most.
Who was the 6th manager? Was it the Damien Matthew/Roberts combo at Watford?
  • Where does Wim De Corte fit into this?
  • Coach.... the best MANAGER was CP. :- )

How some fans can accuse Riga of being a yes man, I can't figure.

He's quite clearly agreeing with the fans & anyone sensible and not agreeing with "we can only play 11" Fraeye.

"Sanogo gives us other possibilities because the bench and all of the squad is very important - not only the players on the pitch."

  • Well the poor lad hasn't had much to choose from has he!? Seriously though I think Jose must have 'something' about him, I nearly put something special? but I'm not sure!
There can be no disputing he has done very well when in charge (so frustrating WHY he wasn't kept on last time!!!) They say football is a simple game and maybe it is as easy as getting players to do/know their jobs, get a balanced team/shape and generally organised. Also training must be 'working' on what has been going wrong and what we have been doing right during matches (not a lot lately!)
I hope whatever happens for the remainder of this season we continue to support JR and his staff and of course our team!!

    COYR..........
  • I expect them to help us achieve what we are looking for.

That makes them sound like Riga signings... I know their qualities and know that they can achieve what we're looking for so much so I'm expecting it
  • Why has he not overseen a single training session?

"Since Riga’s return Charlton have picked up four points from three games – although the manager had not overseen a single training session before the thrashing at Hull."

    Says it in that article:

"Since Riga’s return Charlton have picked up four points from three games – although the manager had not overseen a single training session before the thrashing at Hull."

There is a clue in the statement you put, he only came on the Friday before the Hull game
  • Hence why I apologised and highlighted it?

These little speeches from players where they review how good the coaches and previous coaches are can only really only be taken fully seriously after that player has retired.

Why would you slag off your current manager?

Remember when Jackson said Fraeye was sorting shit out and that he was a good coach and already made a good impact.

Its all PR might as well just stay tight lipped altogether and let the football do the talking on who the best Head coach/manager is.

Will say though that its more believable to take what cousins says here at face value as Riga does appear to be a good coach where Charlton is concerned.
  • More shite spin from the club, I'm afraid.

However, it is also obviously true.
  • Riga certainly has the best song of all the recent Charlton managers/head coaches

Indeed, I was slightly surprised to hear it so soon last Saturday, you can hear it before we gave away the penalty!
