Bromley FC

I'm going to watch Bromley on Saturday (playing the mighty Imps) and although I know the town centre very well I can't remember if there are any pubs nearer the ground? Anyone got any advice/recommendations? (Ben?)

According to the Bromley website it's a segregated match and away fans wont have access to a bar (boooo!) so may end up in the home end anyway - although I would imagine that will have a fair old sprinkling of Nigels, so would rather not.

Also, I see that they offer a fiver off to fans of league clubs on production of their season tickets, so at least mine will be getting some use that day.

Cheers

  • No Pubs near the ground, nearest pubs are from Bromley south(Opposite the station) and then up and along masons hill.

All within a short walk, and also walkable to the ground. Bricklayers arms, Tigers head are on masons hill, think there is a wetherspoons by bromley south
  • Probably looking at a 20 minute walk from a pub in Bromley to the ground.
  • There is a spoons opposite Bromley South. The Bricklayers Arms serves a decent pint, Dave.

Are you arriving by train Off It? Badger has it right on the options from Bromley South. Bricklayers would be my choice.

If by any chance you go to Bromley North then if you like your ale, The Red Lion is excellent. You also have The Anglesey Arms and Crown & Anchor within 5 mins walk of that. You'd need to get a 5 mins cab to the ground from there though.

Hayes is also close by. I've not been to The George but that looks decent.

  • I went a few months ago when they played Cheltenham, there were quite a few away fans in the bar to the right of the entrance turnstiles.

Bricklayers is 5/10 minutes to the ground.

Tigers Head is now called the Crown and Peppercorn, or something like that, and is a Thai restaurant come pub.

  • Cheers fellas.

Idea is to probably go around Bromley North early doors and then cab it to the ground, but I was thinking more about an emergency pit-stop before the game and someone to break up the walk on the way back.

I thought the Tigers Head had gone, but had completely forgotten about the Bricklayers which is probably ideal for the way back (I must've subconsciously assumed that it had gone as well!)

Out of interest, is the Bitter End still there?

  • Bitter end is still trading.
  • Tigers is still there albeit renamed. The one that went on Masons Hill was the Five Bells or whatever the number was.

  • Bitter End is still there, right next door to the Bricklayers which is where I'm going tonight.
  • Five bells used to do a nice pint of white shield.

I've not driven past for a while Off It but I believe The Bitter End is still going. Also, The Railway opposite Bromley North station is now run by Antic so should be decent for a pint but I've not been there yet. Freelands Tavern is also ok if you want a quiet beer and a game of darts.

I'm thinking Freelands Tavern/Red Lion to start - maybe onto the Railway and then maybe the Partridge, before getting a sherbert.

Bricklayers on way back. Couple of specialist ales from the Bitter End on way home.

    Sorted.

Thanks all. Definitely looking forward to this more than any Charlton game in a while. Sadly.

That's the one I was thinking of - the Five Bells. Cheers
  • Enjoy yourself, we'll all be watching Michael Morrison have a stormer for the Brum.

    Splitters.

    All proper Charlton are boycotting.
    ;o)
  • Also try the Barrel and Horn, about three doors from the Partridge, they do a few different beers.

    Sounds spot on Off_It.

I wish I still lived in Bromley just for the Red Lion. A magnificently run pub by Chris & Siobhan.

Says it all about the place that when a friend of mine who was a regular passed away last year that Siobhan turned up to the funeral and then gave me and my folks a drink on the house when we went back for one in his favourite place after the wake. Good people.

Hmm, have avoided that one in the past. This picture on their website kinda put me off - doesn't seem like my kind of place!

  • Just realised that I used to play in the same team as the Bromley manager - didn't realise he was there now!
  • Yes the décor is a bit quirky but the beers ok.

I'm tempted to take a wander down there myself to be honest, I doubt I'll be going to The Valley on Saturday and I live pretty much in Bromley town center.

The obvious choice of pub would be the spoons (Richmal Compton) by Bromley South - there's not a great deal to be said for it to be fair, it's a spoons.

The Barrel and Horn is awesome. One of the only places nearby that you can get a decent pint of Frulli.

Yeah, it's a tad hipster looking and all the bar staff are a bit alternative - but they seem genuinely nice people, it's got a decent atmosphere and it's a nice place to hide away with a book.
  • Is that bloke always there staring at you... Is kinda awkward
  • Off It...no I'm about 40 years older than that guy.

Lucky Reds...good summing up of the Barrel and Horn, fair age range and a good atmosphere.
  • Always go to the Bricklayers when going to Bromley. Two bars in the ground itself too but it's right that away fans access neither. I have always gone to the one upstairs, used to be able to stand there and watch the game through the window but now they have to pul blinds down!

Had my first trip to The Bitter End just before Xmas, the bottles of ale were good but I made the wrong choice of draft ale which was awful.
  • Lincoln one down at half time. Dreadful Dreadful match.
  • The George is decent and a ten minute walk away if you turn left out of the main entrance. Somewhere to drown your sorrows!
