Credit where credit's due. I got an old fashioned paper sponsorship form printed up as some people I asked were reluctant to pay online. Yesterday I took it to my local, a very predominantly Millwall pub. The first regular I asked, a stereotypical muggy, took the form saying he'd take it round the pub for me. 5 minutes later he came back with £220 cash from his corner. He even put in for people who weren't there saying he'd get it off them later. I will be making 2 payments. 1 with money collected before the walk and another probably smaller payment for money collected after the walk.
I'm sure someone will come along and answer more eloquently than I will. The Upbeats no longer I believe get any financial subsidy from the club other than the use of facilities. (Apologys if I'm wrong) but monies raised are spent on everyday running costs, for example the up keep and costs of the minivan used to transport the guys to tournaments and I dare say it'll make an appearance Saturday. I don't know what financial contribution the Upbeats parents make, but I do know indirectly we make one hell of difference to not only the lives of the Upbeats but to their families. Families drive from as far as Chelmsford, one lady brings her son by bus from Sydenham for 1.5 hours spent at Sparrows lane, she told me herself she gets 3 buses and it takes over two hours each way, but she wouldn't miss it for the world. Personally I wish I could do more, the Upbeats made me realise what's important in life, gave me a kick up the arse I needed. Watching these guys and getting so much pleasure and their families a chance to talk amongst themselves almost certainly talking about the daily challenges Down Syndrome must bring to their families. Often while standing on the perimeter of the group I've been invited into their conversation and I have been thanked by parents several times concerning funds raised by CL and Baileys involvement with the Upbeats and not to big to say it's brought tears to my eyes, be it £1 or £100 it's money well spent in my eyes.
Has anyone heard any info on the stopping points? My daughter wants to join me for the last bit but can't seem to see anything on the website.
Last year we stopped at the We Anchor in Hope (not sure if we will again) and I'm not aware of any other stopping points. If was to be meeting someone, I would arrange it for the lower gates at Greenwich park. Then its just a steady mile or so to the Rose of Denmark.
Just had a "Oner" donated by Steve Jones (I doubt its that one) amongst several other donations today, so thank you all...... Just 70 quid shy of 6k...... https://www.justgiving.com/charltonupbeatsday2016

Don't think that he walk is going over Shooters hill this year, I believe it's going along Westmount rd.
Just completed my final prep for the walk with another training session of Walking Round Maidstone A Lot ;-). The principle of it is not as complex as it sounds ; -) Anyway, I've turned into some sort of walking version of Usain Bolt, I think I now actually walk faster than TCE and I have ever run ;-)

I'm more worried about needing a piss than having a break. I won't make 5 miles, let alone 9!
